Petra X (petra-x) New this week: Private Bookshelves! You can make your reviews private as well by saving them as Drafts.

Private shelves already existed -- that was just a reminder, tagged onto the post about the "collect your likes" Thursday candy.

I can see how making a review private would be useful (while you're not yet ready to publish it), but I think the only books I'd want to make private are those I'm planning to give to others as gifts. Just me, though, of course -- I've heard others say they'd like to make their additions to their TBR shelf private so as to not clog up everybody's feed. Which is very considerate, but which I think is a pity ... rather, I would very much like to have the option to comment on people's additions to their TBR piles, e.g. if those are books I've enjoyed as well (or am considering reading, or whatever).

I'd like that option, too.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments I would really like that as well - to comment on shelving.

Petra X (petra-x) I didn't know that there were always private bookshelves. Just shows you how observant I am!

I use the drafts for all sorts of things, not necessarily connected to BookLikes. It's a good place to store a load of links, thoughts on books I might buy for me or the shop, pictures.... anything really.

Dang, that's really a great idea(s)!

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 445 comments Isn't timeline the same thing as "liked posts" plus your own activity?

I actually have a "not age group or whatever for me" shelf I made private on booklikes just because there's currently no compare-books option; I don't want followers seeing my shelves or shelf additions to think those books are to my personal taste.

Hopefully if booklikes goes back to their roots and adds book recommendations they'll let us specify shelves like goodreads does (I still think it's weird that only this year did goodreads change recommendations to only be based on books you liked; almost makes me want to put just my ratings back to see if recommendations now work here).
