I don't think I will read all those books. I'm sure there will come other books in my way and will have to complete this challenge in the next years (if it ever be completed!).

Shivani | 4 comments Hi deli your division of books as per states is according to subject of the books that if it's related to that state or the author from that state. I really liked the idea. Thanks for the great idea.

Only 2? It is supposed to be a very very renowned mythological story. Perhaps it was difficult for you to understand the cultural significance of medieval South India. :)

The main problem was the translation. The Italian edition is a translation of the English translation, not from the original Tamil. There were a few things that made not much sense. But I had also a few problems with the long descriptions of musical instruments, musical notes and so on. I had also some problems reading hymns and songs in verses. I don't like poems so I had a hard time reading them.
2 stars means that it was an ok-read. It is a good story and I liked to know about the Tamil dynasties and how people in Tamil Nadu lived during that time, but as said, I had a hard time reading it.

edit: I have added the link to my review in my reading progress discussion if you want to read it.

I have read multiple chapters from it in school in tamil and of course know the entire story. I found it quite ahead of it's time when i read it in the 90's!

I wish there is some way you could read a direct translation from tamil (even in English).

There is an English edition but I don't think I will read it. I think such books can be enjoyed only in the original language.

I had heard good things too about him and a few of my GR friends with which I have similar tastes like him. This collection of short stories didn't work for me, too slow and boring. And I'm not into Japanese culture, perhaps this too leads me to don't like Janapese authors except Murakami.

Lol
I have to do it! I have too many old books that I wanted to read when I bought them and now, after one, two or more years, my interest in them is decreasing and I'm sure they will stay there for a lifetime if I don't oblige myself to read them. I have decided that from now on, I will buy only books I know I will read soon otherwise in a couple of years I will have again a pile of books that don't interest me anymore.

Same! I am doing a similar challenge this year - 'Books I own' challenge.
I'm on a self imposed book buying ban (for 6 months at least) since Jan 2016. One of the toughest decisions I've ever taken.
Every time I log on to amazon, or pass a book store - which is every day, there's a book store on the way to work - I have to control myself :)
Good luck with your challenges.

Good luck to you too!
At the beginning it was hard to pass by a bookstore without buying, but now I'am able to look at the books without buying anything. Everytime I'm tempted to buy (also the daily deals on amazon) I always think about my pile of books I have to read and so the temptation goes away.
