I've been rereading the whole series and yeah, it is a problem. Maybe because they were published before ebooks.

In general, are you all finding typos and errors in currently published novels?

Usually when I find them in traditionally-published books, it's to make the line fit.

I think publishers and e-pubs have come to the unanimous decision that copy editors cost too much. Of course that doesn't explain why they would eschew spell-check, which would have caught "Coddess" at least. My guess is they turn it off early on, because it pitches a fit every time it finds a particular character's name, and being a writer or publisher doesn't necessarily mean knowing how to force spell-check to ignore all instances of a word. Software skills!

It frustrates me to no end. Especially since my sister is a copy editor and can't find work.

Does your sister do freelance work?

Seriously. My sister spent $700 for an in depth edit of her book, including copyedit. It was worth it to her - she got a book deal with Samhain out of it.

It can definitely go the other way. I sold a story to a semipro zine run by a guy who is dyslexic. His posts border on the incoherent. Fortunately, he is able to find editors for the zine to keep it in order.

I've spotted typos in Kindle books as well. If the edition is current, I usually send information about it to the author or publisher so it can be corrected in future editions.

This edition is old - probably early run paperback.

And hey, maybe in the first edition they worshiped female fish gods.
