Kathryn | 3569 comments This isn't so much a challenge for next year, although it would be nice if I complete some of my categories, and I may carry it on into the next year, but it is more a list to guide my reading a little - authors who I have taken note of from other people's comments, authors that I have previously read and enjoyed and would like to read more of, books that I listed for challenges and then swapped out for something else and owned physical and ebooks that I've bought/downloaded/borrowed off someone else(!) and then not read.

Plus I'd like to make sure I continue to include some Christian fiction in my reading, and if I manage several new releases this year I'll be doing well!

If I get desperate, I may just go with The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni (I’m often suggesting people add herbs and spices to their cooking!) or Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach (since I’m always asking lots of questions about patients’ alimentary canals!)

I have just read Who We Were by Lucy Neave with the main character working as a medical scientist which is what I used to do many years ago, so if I get really desperate (time-wise), I'll count that one for this category.

That part's important Kathryn, as I discovered recently! I loaded my reading way too heavily towards others' recommendations this year and then found I had nothing to vote for in the Goodreads Choice Awards.

Yes, but I don't really care that much about the GR Choice Awards - they don't mean that much anyway, as far as I'm concerned - people don't stop reading the books just because they were published last year!! Or at least, I don't. In fact, I mostly prefer to let the hype die down over new books, although it's nice to read some new releases occasionally.

Kathryn | 3569 comments Thanks, Brenda, Carolyn and Julie. Brenda, Spirits of the Ghan wasn't on your top 5 list, was it? Or did I somehow miss it? No - I just checked - it was on your top 5 Aussie list - didn't make it into your general top 5 list! That's one of the ones I may not read exactly, but I do want to read another Judy Nunn after reading Elianne this year. If I can get Spirits of the Ghan, I'll read it, but if it's hard to get, I'll read whatever I can lay my hands on!

And if my lists help anyone else, please feel free to use any books or general ideas/concepts, of course! Your Aussie author list that you did as a personal challenge for 2015 is a pretty good resource, too, Julie!!

message 20: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I've added the Popsugar Reading Challenge to my list. It's a yearly challenge, and there are some categories that hold no interest for me, and as I don't want to add things to my TBR just to fulfil a challenge, I won't be doing those categories.

Yes, but the last few books seem to take the longest! I had about 2 or 3 books remaining on a book bingo last year and it took me months to get those ones read!! And as you say, I'm already over-subscribed with what I want to read this year!

Kathryn | 3569 comments Three weeks into 2016 and I think it's time to update and review my reading. I could wait for the month to be up, but I feel like doing it now!

My Popsugar Reading Challenge is blazing along. I definitely need to work on my ibooks, previously read authors I want to read more of and books listed for previous challenges that I still haven't read. It's a good thing there's still 11 months, 1 week and a few days to go this year!!

Kathryn | 3569 comments I've updated my challenges and reads for March.

My top 3 genres for the year so far have been:
Historical fiction (35%)
Crime/mystery (20%)
Contemporary (12%)
No surprises there!

The top 3 nationalities where my authors come from are:
UK (41%)
Australia (35%), and
US (21%)
No surprises there either! I think I need to broaden my horizons...

And I've read more than twice as many female authors as male authors. Also no surprise!

Currently I'm at:
My owned books -
Physical books 1/11
ibooks 2/13
Kindle 2/9

New and Previously Read Authors -
Previously read Aussies 1/18
New Aussies 6/19
