Cheri (jovali2) I'm going to try for Brooklyn. I'll make it my first book of the year and hopefully the movie will still be in theaters when I've finished reading!

Rainey | 241 comments I am going to read The Martian. Its been on my TBR pile for awhile.

Cheryl Hager (cheryl_is_reading) | 73 comments I love the movie P.S. I Love You. I cry every time. So it's book P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern counterpart has been on my TBR pile for a little while. I've put it off because I have to be in the mood to read chit lit--especially when I know it's going to make me cry.--done

According to the challenge, I also need to debate which is better...
Well, first off I should say, it took me forever to read this because I love the movie (didn't know there was a book at the time), and was noticing right away that it differed so much from the book. I found out that I didn't like book Holly as much. I liked movie Holly's chosen job better. This story is still a tear-jerker, but I cried at different places in the book and the movie. I vote for the movie!

Maybe Never Let Me Go: I've somehow managed to miss both the book and the film up to now...

message 6: by Janet (new)

Janet Great idea, Cheri! I have Brooklyn on my bookshelf as well, and I planned to see the movie. Thanks!

Kathryn (kathrynlively) | 63 comments I'm going with Room by Emma Donoghue.

May | 15 comments Paula Hawkins' "the girl on the train" is being released as a movie in 2016, so I'm going to read that one.

I had no idea this was made into a film! I loved The Blackwater Lightship, so this may well have to make it onto my list. Thanks for that.

Tatiana Davis | 25 comments I was going to read Divergent since I havent read that yet.

message 11: by Allie (new)

Allie (allieeveryday) I'm going to try The Wolf of Wall Street, I think. I can't decide if I think I'm going to love it or hate it, so we'll see if that ends up being my pick to finish.

Krisha | 17 comments The Martian seems like the obvious choice for me here if only because I know my husband will watch the movie with me (even if he won't read the book).

Just finished reading The Martian and I think it's a great pick for this challenge.

Other book/film combinations I've enjoyed in the past are Cloud Atlas (book and film both excellent, and really rich for comparison) and The Prestige by Christopher Priest - I saw Christopher Nolan's brilliant film first, and was surprised to find how different the novel was. I think somebody else has already mentioned liking Life of Pi more as a film than as a book, and I probably agree with that, even though I read the book first in this case...

A little bit leftfield... The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins is an enjoyable and influential early detective novel, for anybody looking to tick a classic off their list, and has been adapted into a couple of enjoyable films/miniseries.

Kai | 12 comments I'll be doing Gone Girl and The Devil Wears Prada. The trick is finding time to watch the movies--I'd much rather be reading!

I read Cloud Atlas this year and absolutely loved it, and I have the DVD laying around, but I just haven't had the time to watch it.

Yeah, finding a free three-hour slot and resisting using it as reading-time is tough, but for Cloud Atlas... It's one of those films I can watch again and again and again - it's probably been six times or so since I first watched it and I'm well up for another viewing sometime soon!

Great choice. A rare example of when I thought the movie was better than the book. The film just blew me away.

message 31: by Elena (new)

Elena Johansen I was just browsing Netflix to see what my options might be, and now I'm thinking Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I'd meant to see that, so I might as well read the book first, right?

message 42: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (watchoutforlucy) Book/Movie which is better?

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie-by Muriel Spark
My Left Foot - by Christie Brown
The River - by Rumer Godden

I think this is going to be difficult.

message 43: by Richard (new)

Richard (riaryan) I got Headhunters by Jo Nesbø for Christmas, and I see it's on Netflix (certainly in the UK) so I'm going to do that for this task.
