The Reading Challenge Group discussion

I've read both of Ernest Cline's books: Ready Player One and Armada, and thoroughly loved both of them.

I was just wondering if anyone had read anything similar? Maybe along the gaming or just general geeky route?

You might like Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker series. Or maybe Good Omens by Terry Pratchett.

I feel like there's another one similar to Ready, Player One that I've read recently but I can't put my finger on it. Gaming/retro... Argh. This will drive me mad!

You could try Off to Be the Wizard. It's not as good, but kind of fun.

My brother recommended Swordart Online as an anime to me over Christmas, it's a similar thing with living life inside a game.

There are manga novels of it if you're interested in that kinda thing

Love those books too and I keep re-reading Ready Player One. Nothing comes to mind but I've heard that Ender's Game is similar to Armada (got Enders waiting patiently on shelf).
There is another scifi book that I love and have re-read many times but it is connected to Egyptology not gaming - Resurrection - just in case you happen to like that too :O)

You might check out The Android's Dream. It was also narrated by Wil Wheaton. It has a gross, rocky scene in the beginning, but after you get over it, it takes on a crazy quest for a sheep, that I will not tell you about, but it is funny and actually has a unique ending. I enjoyed it after starting twice.

Ready Player One. I'll admit I first heard about it from the movie (based on the book) at the time I didn't realize it was based on a book. The general concept reminded me of Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. I read that book a few years back (7 according to my reading list here) because it was the book of the month for a sci-fi group here that is more or less abandoned now. Anyway that story was similar because of the online/internet/VR world the characters connect with. First published in the early 1990s it should be a bit clunky with the internet stuff but it felt like it was current times. The exception would be now everyone one be connected via their cellphones and smartphones, not their bulky PCs at home.

I know I am like 6 years late but.... there is Ready Player Two! Haven't read it yet but its there.
