Rachel Nunes (rachelannnunes) | 23 comments For years I've been annoyed when I pick up a perfectly beautiful-looking book, only to be slammed by over-the-top content. Movies are rated, so why not books? If I'm going to fork out my hard-earned money, I deserve to have some idea of what I'm in for, right?

Well, a year ago some other authors, programmers, and I decided to do something about it. Two things actually: the creation of My Book Cave (already listing great books!) and the upcoming My Book Ratings. If you are interested in finding clean books, or just books that meet your expectations, I hope you'll jump in and support this site!

My Book Cave is where subscribers sign up to hear about free and discounted books that match their content ratings. So if you don't mind violence but don't want swearing or sex, you can choose that. Don't mind kissing, but don't want to see intimate sexual details, then that's what you choose. No more guessing!

Advantages:
1. The site is always going to be free for subscribers.

2. Books are free or steeply discounted, so you can try out new authors without a lot of expense.

3. Our editors look carefully at every book before approving the deal to make sure it's a quality product with decent grammar and formatting.

4. Every book is also content rated with movie-like ratings that tell you exactly what is in the book and why it's rated that way.

5. Just for subscribing, you'll get three bestselling, content-rated ebooks for free that aren't discounted anywhere else (the books will change on January first, so if you don't see ones you want now, you can wait for then).

So far this has been a labor of love, lol, but hopefully someday we'll be able to pay staff to help out by charging authors a small sum to promote their books. (We have thousands of subscribers and some authors are already reporting significant downloads—authors can submit their deals here.)

My Book Ratings will be a crowd-based sister site that rates ALL BOOKS for content, regardless of price or quality. All the books that have been featured on My Book Cave will be there, and all readers/authors/publishers will be able to submit ratings on books. We'll really need help to add books when this goes live, and I hope some of you will be willing to post about books you've read. I'll let you know when it goes live (probably in another two months).

Please pass this on to the readers and authors you know. We readers have the right to know the content rating of a books before we spend money on them!

I welcome any comments. Do you like the idea of content-rated books?

Fabulous. I've been desperate for something like this. I'm tired of spending money on books I don't feel good reading.

Rachel Nunes (rachelannnunes) | 23 comments I'm glad you feel as I do! I'm really excited about it, but it is a lot of work. The more subscribers we get, the more authors will submit books, etc. I'm determined to keep this up, no matter how long it takes. BTW, if anyone wants to volunteer to help, we do need help with content for the blogs (there are two, one for readers and one for authors).

Gerd | 31 comments Sounds great.
As a reader who likes to rant about authors who lose sight of story in favour of, ermm... "Romance" this might be just the right place for me.

Edit:
Signed-up and had a look at the page.
Really like the way it's set up.

And thanks for the free books, wonderful selection.

Rachel Nunes (rachelannnunes) | 23 comments You're welcome. We hope the more people sign up, the more great authors we'll attract, etc. We appreciate the support of content-rated books!

Rachel (rachelmortensen) | 15 comments I just signed up and I am so excited. I love reading, but one thing that is very wearing is finding a clean romance with my standards. Now I hopefully will not have to worry about that.

Rachel Nunes (rachelannnunes) | 23 comments Thank you! We hope to have more and more authors as we go along. If you know any authors I should invite to list this promo there, let me know. It's free to them, too! And if you signed up today and really like the bonus books that you get for subscribing, most will change tomorrow, so download any that you are interested today. If you don't, that's okay, great new bonus books are going up tomorrow.

C. | 289 comments This is a great idea, but I've found that such sites have very few titles and from too few genres rated, so my wish is that sites such as goodreads and Amazon have 'every' book rated!

I'll volunteer to blog, both my book(s) and about writing. How do I do this?

Rachel Nunes (rachelannnunes) | 23 comments Thanks, Bonnie, you submit your books for a promotion on My Book Cave by going to https://mybookcave.com/authorsandpubl... and signing up.

We have two blogs on My Book Cave, one for readers and one for authors, and if you'd like to be one of our bloggers, just email me at rachel@mybookcave the topic of a blog you want to write, or we have a list of topics we plan to do and we can give you one. Your name will be on each of your posts, and we are creating a page that will have bloggers bios, website links, and all the posts they write. I usually do a couple blogs a week under a pen name. Right now only three of us are blogging. You can go to the blogs to see what we're doing. We post the blogs on Twitter to 5,000 followers, post them on Facebook, and send the reader ones out to thousands of subscribers.

Author: https://mybookcave.com/authorposts/

As for a variety of titles and genres, it's very true that these are limited on promotional sites because they only list those that are currently discounted, but every single title we've ever promoted on My Book Cave will be transferred to the sister site coming out in a few months called My Book Ratings. There, we will ask people to post ratings (and it's very SIMPLE to do) on every book they've read. And if you disagree with a rating, you can add your own. Authors and publishers ratings on their books will be tagged as such. We have logos very like the ESRB (game) and movie ratings that we'll use there and official ones for books we've personally read and rated. Authors will be able to put them on their books or website if they want. It's a very ambitious project and it will absolutely be a crowd-based website.

But, there is no charge for listings on My Book Ratings, and its success hinges on making My Book Cave profitable so we'll have the resources to make ratings happens. Ratings on books is WAY overdue. I do not intend to ever give up finding and rating more and more books for My Book Ratings, when it's finally up. I have invested more time and resources than I ever imagined, but I think it's worth fighting for.

I hope many of you will jump in and help! Thanks for listening.
