This folder is for a book that your favorite author loves.

How on earth are you going to find out? Look for interviews where they discuss books that have inspired them. If they're alive - send them a message! Authors love to hear from you.

Please share your suggestions, or any resources you've used to help find your book for this category in this thread.

La_mariane | 36 comments The first difficulty is to decide who my favourite author is...

message 3: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 229 comments I have decided to go with one of my favorite author's Anne Rice's favorite book "Martin Eden" by Jack London, because I happened to buy it this summer and haven't read it yet.

message 4: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 29 comments I read somewhere that Alice Hoffman liked the book Cat's Cradle. I have that on my TBR pile so will probably choose it.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I don't really have a favorite. I will probably go with Stephen King. He has lists of books that he loved or influenced his writing.http://www.aerogrammestudio.com/2014/...

message 6: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments I am Facebook friends with the Author Juliet Blackwell. I asked her, and she said she loved Empire Falls and The Poisonwood Bible.

Heather Blake/Webber also told me that she loved To Kill a Mockingbird- Unfortunately, I have already read this, and wanted to do one I have not read before, so I am choosing Empire Falls.

I might use The Poisonwood Bible for a South America selection.

Yep. For me, it changes often. I went with two authors that introduced me to a new genre that I really felt made me excited when I knew they had a new book coming out. I am FB friends with them, so I simply asked them there.

message 8: by Len (last edited Dec 31, 2015 11:28AM) (new)

Len (lenmacabre) Since my favorite author is Anne Rice, I am considering reading a favorite book of hers, My Sunshine Away.

message 9: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) My favorite author is Agatha Christie, but it will be a challenge to find out her favorite book. If I can't, I'll go with one of my new favorite YA author, Victoria Aveyard.

message 10: by Amy Beth (last edited Dec 30, 2015 09:20AM) (new)

Amy Beth It is very difficult to pin down one favorite author. I have several. I decided to send a tweet to Ian Rankin and see what he has to say (if he even responds) and I'll do some Googling to see if I can figure out anything else. I bet Ian Rankin responds with Muriel Spark. I'm pretty sure he loves her.

Edited to add: I received a reply from Ian Rankin. As I thought, he said The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark!

Teresa Kander Spoke to Heather Blake Webber yesterday, who gave me several suggestions. I chose Son of the Morning by Linda Howard.

Interesting that she only gave me the one...To Kill a Mockingbird. What were here other suggestions?

I told her I'd already read that one , so she sent me this:
If you like time travel romance, I adore SON OF THE MORNING by Linda Howard. THE SPELLMAN FILES by Lisa Lutz is another favorite. My fave kid's book is WHERE'S MY TEDDY by Jez Alborough. My fave this past year was BIG LITTLE LIES by Liane Moriarty. Hope that helps!

message 14: by Sharmon (new)

Sharmon (tpgirl) Another Source you could possibly use is the "Good Minds Suggest" where Authors recommend books ....I don't know if they are their favorite but they are recommendations. There are 199 different authors listed here from many different genres.

Thank you!

I had already started Empire Falls...but, if I have time, I might do the Son of the Morning. That sounds up my alley, and I really did not enjoy the Empire Falls.

Margo (dandylines) Helin wrote: "My favorite author is Carlos Ruiz Zafón and his favorites are The Name of the Rose, The Neverending Story, The Club Dumas, [book:Fahrenheit 451|1..."

Ah Fahrenheit 451 - could also qualify about a book about books.

message 19: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I can't pick a favorite author! LOL! However, I really like Jodi Picoult. Here is a link to an interview with her where she names 5 books she loves. https://www.goodreads.com/interviews/...

Of the ones she named I am going to pick Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight . Jodi says that while everyone was talking about "Gone Girl" she was crazy about this book.

Melissa Ann-Marie wrote: "My favorite author is C.S. Lewisand I know he loved George MacDonald so I guess I´ll have to find something by him, maybe Phantastes"

CS Lewis was a genius. His writing is wonderful and humbling.

Vera Theus | 7 comments After having a hard time deciding which author is my favourite I chose Kai Meyer
I do not know if he is that known in the world, but in Germany he is famous ;)
I asked him via twitter and thats what he answers:
The Golem
Books of Blood : Volume One and the other ones of the series.
The Club Dumas
The Damnation Game
Foucault's Pendulum
Gormenghast
And Stephen Kings "It" (cannot link it here)

Hope it would help other fans of Kai Meyer :)

I dont know if I will read The Golem or Focaults Pendulum. I own both and havent read them.

Great suggestion, thank you and I did find one though it was not quite what I wanted.

message 23: by Margo (new)

Margo (dandylines) The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music
After reading all the recommendations, I decided on this one.
I really do not have a favorite author. I have favorite authors for different types of genres, but none are listed in Goodreads.
I've seen the movie and would like to read the book.

message 24: by Teresa (last edited Jan 10, 2016 11:28AM) (new)

Teresa (teremazon) As mentioned above, it is very difficult to pick just one favourite author, but staying within my favourite genre, I'll be deciding between:

Making Faces, by Amy Harmon (recommended by Pepper Winters) or

Rook and Ronin: Complete Seven Book Series by J A Huss (recommended by CD Reiss.

message 25: by Carolin (new)

Carolin One of my favourite authors is Douglas Adams, and he liked Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Kurt Vonnegut, P.G. Wodehouse, and Ruth Rendell. So I have some great options! :)

message 26: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 29 comments I decided to read Paula by Isabel Allende who is also one of my favourite authors. One of the suggested web sites had this book as a favourite of Sue Monk Kidd. A heart-wrenching and also historically interesting read!

message 27: by Jessica (last edited Mar 22, 2016 07:32PM) (new)

Jessica (jessicamdawn) | 19 comments I sort of feel like I'm cheating, as my favorite author is my sister. She's got a self published book for sale, The Rose Chateau: A Tale of Beauty Meets Beast, and another one that I absolutely ADORE (as in I've reread it multiple times) that she's trying to get published professionally. She's also a fanfiction author and I love all of her stuff. She is unironically my favorite author and I can't wait until I can own a copy of her Remember This series (the one she's shopping around atm).

Anyway, her favorite book is The Thief Lord and has been for years, so I'll be reading that when I get done with what I'm reading now.

Edit: Actually, if you're looking for a fairytale remake to read, her book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast (if you couldn't tell by the title).

message 28: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) I have no idea who my favorite author is... but I have probably read the most Nicholas Sparks books of any (not embarrassed about this!). His favourite author is Stephen King, so maybe I will finally read one of his.

Sounds like a good choice. I liked Carrie

message 30: by Judy (last edited Apr 12, 2016 05:35PM) (new)

Judy Here are some sites I found by googling "authors' favorite books":
http://www.strandbooks.com/the-author...
http://mentalfloss.com/article/64532/...
http://favoriteof.com/authors/books/

Or try "so and so's favorite books"--got some nice hits with that.

message 31: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Thanks so much for attaching the link to this article. She is 'one' of my favorites, it changes often and normally there is a croad at the top, but this interview is perfect and Reconstructing Amelia looks so interesting, I can't resist.

Since I don't have a specific favorite, I picked Paula McLain who is one of my favorite authors. She lists West with the Night as a book she liked.

message 33: by Chris (new)

Chris My favourite author is M C Beaton, author of the hilarious Agatha Raisin books, currently showing on Sky 1, and more famously Hamish McBeth.

Her favourite book is The Light of Day by Eric Ambler. So I am going to read that.

message 34: by Mary Sue (new)

Mary Sue I'm not sure I have a favorite author, but I read in an article that Lisa Scottoline's favorite book is Tender Is the Night, so that is my pick for this task. I did not like this book - I rated it 2 stars.

message 35: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) I went with Team of Rivals, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. J.K. Rowling mentioned it as one of her favorite books in several interviews.
