The Australian Women Writers Challenge was set up to help overcome gender bias in the reviewing of books by Australian women. The challenge encourages avid readers and book bloggers, male and female, living in or outside Australia, to read and review books by Australian women throughout the year. You don’t have to be a writer to sign up. You can choose to read and review, or read only. (Suggestions for what makes a good review can be found here.)

The challenge will run from Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2016. You can sign up throughout the year till the end of November.

How to join
2016 aww badge

2016 AWW badge

If you have a blog or other social media sharing site:

download the 2016 AWW badge
create a sign-up post for your blog or home page
enter your details in the sign-up form

If you’re a reader and you don’t have a blog, just nominate the number of books you plan to read throughout the year and share your reading on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter (see relevant links below). You can also join Goodreads or The Reading Room where you can keep track of your reading and share with others.

Choose your level:

Stella: read 4 – if reviewing, review at least 3
Miles: read 6 – if reviewing, review at least 4
Franklin: read 10 – if reviewing, review at least 6
Create your own challenge: nominate your own goal
We’re also putting together an AWW Bingo card and, if we can attract sponsorship, there might be prizes – so watch this space!

To sign up to #AWW2016, enter your challenge details HERE. Please include the optional additional information where relevant – it’ll help us get to know you. (*Note: your information will not be used for any non-AWW-related activity.)

Amanda | 5 comments New to the group, but not to the challenge ( I joined and failed the first year it was running, back when I was blogging).

Aiming to read more internationally, but also 50% of my reading to be by women writers for 2016.

Have signed up to read and review 15.

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) This is my first year attempting this challenge. I live in a small town in Ohio, USA and may not be able to obtain many Australian author books. That is why I am starting with such a small goal. I found this challenge on Shellyrae's blog when I was signing up for her eclectic reader challenge for my 4th year. I'm looking forward to some fun reading with authors new-to-me.

message 12: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Lovely you've decided to read Aussie women with us Amy:)

message 13: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) I took a class on Coursera on Australian literature and really enjoyed it, so when I saw this, I thought it would be a good way to expose myself to more of it.

message 14: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Great idea! Hope you can get the Aussie authors to read...though if you have an ereader, you shouldn't have any trouble:)

Welcome! Both bookdepository.com and amazon have a reasonable selection of Australian women writers. Your local library should also be able to help you :)

Sharon (sharonjohnston) | 24 comments I've signed up. Given my publishing commitments I'm going for Stella officially, but I'm aiming for more.

message 17: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Welcome Sharon!

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Ward (stephmward) I'm in! It's my first year, so I'm signing up for Stella, but hope to read and review many more. Thanks for coordinating this great challenge.

message 19: by Lauredhel (new)

Lauredhel | 5 comments I've kicked off with a review of Between the Vines by Tricia Stringer. Last year I somehow managed 70 AWW books, but I don't know if I'll get anywhere near that this year!

Have you opened your own thread in the Challenge Participants folder so you can keep track and we can all check out your reviews yet?

Here's your review for Between The Vines by Tricia Stringer
