It's safe to say that if you're in this group, you spend a large amount of your free time reading books. But we all need a little balance in our leisure activities. So this is the place to discuss anything tv - whether that be listing your favorite shows of all time or reacting to a specific episode or event.

Just remember to use the spoiler tags when discussing specifics, even if it happened 15 seasons ago. Don't ruin it for those binge watchers out there ;) (enter <*spoiler> ... < / *spoiler> without the *'s and spaces)

Rebecca (roebschter) | 13 comments My kinda topic, thanks! Hopefully I'll get some tips on how to manage you're reading AND tv series addicction. What a hard life. And what total first world problems I have.

message 3: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments I totally decreased my tv show watching in 2015, but really, with the end of Fringe, I'd a very hard time to find something new to watch.

For the moment, I follow Orphan Black and I'm currently watching Jessica Jones & Supergirl, both interesting enough.

message 4: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I'm not one for having TV on in the background, or just mindless watching, but I definitely love a good TV show and have been known to binge watch!

My all-time favourite would have to be Buffy - I've watched the whole series multiple times. The other show I could rewatch till the cows come home is Friends.

Other favourites are Game of Thrones (I think it will end up being like Buffy, I've already watched it all twice), Breaking Bad, the first season of True Detective (about as close to perfect as TV gets IMO), Fargo. Arrested Development (apart from the last season) is brilliant. Chuck was a lot of fun. I'm enjoying House of Cards, and also Orange is the New Black. Downtown Abbey too. Community I loved for the first few seasons but am struggling with the later shows. The Office (UK) I loved as well. I also love Top Gear - it never ever fails to make me laugh out loud.

Old stuff, I love Frasier and Seinfeld. Twin Peaks, The X-Files. Six Feet Under (though I've still to watch the final season).

Geez. Lucky I read so much, or I would seem like a complete TV addict.

Aglaea | 369 comments Yes, good grief, I haven't watched nor read Game of Thrones, so I'll come after you with a bluntly cut book(*), should you reveal something. Uhuh.

I love Jessica Jones. Makes me want to read more comics. Haven't warmed up to Agent whatshername, the one who knew Captain America, and Daredevil is still in the maybe box. I wish Elektra would get her own series, because the movie isn't much to write home about, although Jennifer Garner is hot as usual.

I never started S2 of Orphan Black, but liked S1!

I'd rather read or do something handicraft related than binge watch. My brain goes so mushy from it.

(*)old travel guide, don't worry...

Orphan Black is on my list to watch but it's not on Hulu or Netflix (I believe it's Amazon exclusive) so it will likely be a little while before I start it.

I also really liked the first season of True Detective and wish they would have done more with that same storyline. I started season 2 but got distracted. Maybe I'll revisit it eventually.

The number of shows that I watch is rather pathetic. I'll have to sit down tomorrow and think of the list. I'm one of those people that when asked about a favorite, it's suddenly like I've never seen a single TV show in my life.

message 7: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments Are you sure Orphan Black isn't on Netflix? We have it here. That is how I watched it, and will watch S2 too.

message 8: by Marta (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments I really don't watch any show regularly any more. I very much enjoyed Game of Thrones but binge-watched it online, not when they came out. Semi regularly follow The Big Bang Theory (being a nerd) and Dr Who, because my daughter loves it and sometimes I watch with her. We binge-watched StarTrek and its spinoffs for the same reason. In the past we were into Sex and the City and Battlestar Galactica. I think that's it for TV shows for me... I am reading instead nowadays :)

No. No no no no no. Stay far, far away from Season 2. It is terrible. Awful. It does NOT get any better. It's that bad, that I realised about one or two episodes from the end that I didn't even know any of the characters' names. It's so bad. So bad. Bad. Bad bad bad.

message 11: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
That's sad to hear! I've heard great things about the show. Does season 1 end well enough for me stop there?

Netflix offers really different content between countries. There's actually a plug-in that lets you "pretend" to be from a different country and view that content. But I chickened out since it seems pretty illegal. I know... I live dangerously.

message 12: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Oh yes! Season 1 is close to perfect. Season 2 is completely unrelated, it just shares the same name. :)

message 13: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Right now I'm watching: The Affair, Shameless, Walking Dead, Vampire Diaries, Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Wife, Nashville, Penny Dreadful, American Horror Story, and Pretty Little Liars

I would say my favorite shows of all time have been Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, and Sex and the City.

My fiance and I usually watch an episode or two each night so we go through a lot of TV.

Jody wrote: "Oh yes! Season 1 is close to perfect. Season 2 is completely unrelated, it just shares the same name. :)"

Oh, interesting! I had no idea. Good to know :)

message 14: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Ooh, Dexter, Gilmore Girls, SatC - how could I forget those? I love them too.

True Detective & Fargo are the same concept - kind of capsule shows, each season is different. It's a really cool idea! One of the Jimmy Kimmel celebrity mean tweets was about Colin Farrell, saying that his character in TD "looks like he smells like depressed couch farts" - and I have to say that the whole season is like a depressed couch fart lolol.

message 15: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

I quit after, I believe, two episodes. Right after (view spoiler). I love so many of the actors in that season but it was rather depressing.

We watch a lot of the same shows! I love the Vampire Diaries, (view spoiler) Nashville is another one I love and am always worried about because it always seems to be on the chopping block each year. (view spoiler) I feel The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Penny Dreadful will always be good!

Other than those we watch pretty much all of the super hero shows: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl (still not too sure about this one but will finish out the season). I also watch Agents of Shield Peggy Carter and really love that, mostly because I just love that time period. Outlander has been amazing so far as well.

I agree that Buffy is always a good choice when watching reruns along with Smallville. I could watch Smallville everyday all day and be perfectly content! :)

Nashville - (view spoiler)

Do you have a favorite American Horror Story season?

message 18: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I love Game of Thrones! I'm always screaming Noooo! Whaaaat?! hahaha I love also Doctor Who. especially those episodes with David Tenant. I just started with Jessica Jones and looks really good and I got Flash first season as Christmas gift :-)

message 19: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments Laura, I was under the impression that US content is the widest, and locally they offer a bit less or how I should put it. I had the plugin until it stopped working :/ And since we have OB outside of the US, my guess was you could see it there, too. And now I realise I just assumed you're American.

I recently watched my first Doctor episode with the one before David Tennant, his name refuses to pop out though. It seemed quite entertaining.

Gilmore Girls. Hmm, I watched it until she arrived at college age. For some reason I felt it change a bit around that time.

message 20: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments Oooh, I have more.
Suits, yum.
Downton Abbey, yay.
New Girl, funny.
MASH, omg.
House, oh yeah.

message 21: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Suits is fun! (And Harvey ... nom)

Gilmore Girls did change a bit once she went to college, I agree. I'm kind of intrigued by the new season coming out, as I do feel like it ended kind of abruptly (I think it got cancelled & had to wrap up).

OMG. How did I forget Supernatural?!

Nashville: (view spoiler)

American Horror Story is difficult for me to choose a favorite. I really loved Asylum but most people I talk to think thats the worst one. The first season was really good too and this season so far I have liked too. The Coven and Freak Show were probably my least favorite. Which is your favorite?

There is a new season of Gilmore Girls coming out?? I loved that show and also felt like it ended too abruptly and open ended.

I have to say, I'm with the "dislike" group on Asylum. I think AHS has a tendency to shove too much into a season. I would have liked it much more if they would have just stuck with one of the storylines. (view spoiler). Overall, I think I would say Murder House and Coven just because they were a little more simple. This season hasn't been bad but it tends to pick up after December so I'm looking forward to that.

I didn't mind Gilmore Girls after she went away to college, mainly because I really liked Logan. But the last season, with the new writer, was just awful. And I really didn't like the ending for Rory and how they made her (view spoiler)

I haven't heard if the original writer is coming back for the reboot but that would be amazing :)

message 27: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I liked Logan too - I think he was my favourite of her boyfriends. It was definitely different, although maybe I'm just thinking of the last season without the original writer. It's been a while!

message 28: by Keri (new)

Keri Looks like the original writers will be back for the revival! SUPER excited!!

Ella | 42 comments The new shows I'm watching this year is The Player and Blindspot (because of the Strike Back boys!) and Into The Badlands. I'm keeping up with The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals. And basketball, because that's what the hubby watches.

message 30: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments Firefly. But some moron decided not to continue the show.

message 31: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (roebschter) | 13 comments I hear you, HUGE mistake not to continue that series.

message 32: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I don't watch nearly as much tv shows as I used to, but I still loooove Downton Abbey (one of my favorite show ever, I'm so going to cry watching the last ever episode).
I also always laugh in front of Modern Family, but Big Bang Theory is far less funny than it used to be. I also really like Once upon a time (the mother of all fairy-tales retellings), Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sons of Anarchy (still need to finish the last two seasons), Suits (Harveeyy), Orphan Black, How to get away with murder and of course Buffy.

I also have a thing for silly British comedies, if you like British humour, you should definitely try How not to live your life, The IT Crowd, Spaced, Black Books or Threesome.

I totally forgot to include Sons of Anarchy in my all-time favorites. It's such an amazing show and (view spoiler). Spoiler for you, Sophie, if you haven't seen the last two seasons.

message 34: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Thanks Laura, curious as I am, I was just about to click on the spoiler tag when I read the end of your sentence ;)

message 35: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Modern Family is pretty funny - I love Gloria, and Phil, and Cam.

message 36: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I love them all, but Gloria, Phil and Cam are really funny. Ok I laugh easily but almost every episode has me cracking a laugh and not many tv show can do that after 7 seasons.

message 37: by Ella (new)

Ella | 42 comments It's not on right now, but I love The Last Ship.

message 38: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I think I'm only on S4 of MF. I find the kids all really annoying though, especially Manny.

I can't believe that Downton Abbey is ending! I only just found out, and I've only got two or three episodes left. Noooo! Any other Downton fans, if you haven't seen the movie Gosford Park, you should. It's absolutely brilliant - and also has the wonderful Maggie Smith in quite a similar role. LOVE her. I think the scenes with Violet & Isabel in the last couple of seasons are some of my favourites. Hilarious!

message 39: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I LOVE Maggie Smith and I'm definitely checking Gosford Park out! It's going to be perfect to watch on the 1st January when I'll be dying on my couch haha.

"Coven" was my favorite AHS so far. I haven't seen the new season yet, but wasn't real impressed with the FreakShow season. It kinda petered out for me midway and got boring. I'm excited to see what they do with Hotel!

Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... (jennabgemini) | 243 comments Ella wrote: "It's not on right now, but I love The Last Ship."

Love that one too! Especially love watching military anything with hubby since he can always spot when they switch out handguns between scenes or change rifle scopes or the uniforms are off or whatever, its great. Also I have a biochemistry/microbiology background and currently work in health care so I think the whole thing is just plain interesting.

message 42: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 36 comments Ahh!!! I'm so behind on my series watching! Right now, I'm watching Gilmore Girls all the way through (never watched it before) and I'm on the 6th season. Next, I will probably watch the last season of Revenge to finish that series, and then watch the new season of Orange is the New Black. Other than those, I like Once Upon a Time, Pretty Little Liars, Criminal Minds, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and probably others that I cannot remember. My boyfriend and I usually work opposite schedules and we watch a lot of shows together, so we haven't been really keeping up with our shows because we hate watching without the other.

message 43: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I did the same with Gilmore Girls last fall. I've been putting off the last season of Revenge so you'll have to let me know how it is if you watch it first.

What did you think about the reveal of A in PLL? use spoiler tag please ;)

message 44: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Ooh, another great series I just remembered was Damages (with Glenn Close & Rose Byrne).

message 45: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
That's a good one! It took me a few years to actually finish it on Netflix but it's a great show.

message 46: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I was really surprised at how much I loved that show - it's not my usual style at all!

message 47: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 36 comments Laura: I was just so relieved to find out who the real A is. I just yelled, "FINALLY!" after that episode. But, who knows what they are going to throw in next though. I haven't finished that season or the last season. I only watched one or two episodes with the A reveal.

My tv show list just keeps getting bigger. Instead of catching up on the shows that I have already been watching, I am now binge-watching a new show (well, new to me show). It's called Web Therapy, and it stars Lisa Kudrow. As a huge Friends fanatic and a counselor, this was right up my alley.

message 48: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I've just started rewatching Friends on Netflix. It's just so comfortable, and apart from the clothes, pretty timeless.

message 49: by Ella (new)

Ella | 42 comments We just started Supernatural on Netflix. It's on it's 11th season and has 22 episodes per season. We're only on Season 2 right now, but really enjoying it. It's so funny because it started in 2005 so they still have flip phones and paper maps.

message 50: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Jan 14, 2016 11:28AM) (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Megan, The second half of the season just premiered. I'm questioning where they're going to go with it due to the events in the premiere and I think they took a little longer than they should revealing A. But I'm still interested enough to keep watching so they must be doing something right ;)

As a side note, no other show gives me such mixed fashion-related emotions. I have such a mixture of "I need to buy that!" and "My wardrobe is just so inferior." haha
