Since, again, I am going through my Mark Twain anthology this year, I can pick any of his, but, our book club is also doing Kansas City Noir, so I might use that.

I am from Oregon and I am reading "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey.

The author that created the series "Bones" teaches at UNC and is a real anthropologist. Many of her books take place in NC and SC.
I think I am going to read one of her books. I love the series now.

Luckily enough I live in London (UK) so more than a little spoilt for choice, will see what catches my eye first ;)

I live in a small town in southeast Texas. I just happened across this awesome book of short stories that take place in surrounding areas. Great read!

I live in Sweden in a town called Gävle, 100 km north of Uppsala and 170 km north of Stockholm. This thriller is written by a Swedish author and set in Uppsala so quite a good choice - and already on my shelve. Högtryck by Thomas Ringstedt

As a Tennessean, I have lots of wonderful choices. I've decided to go with Andrew Lytle and his book A Wake for the Living.

For Michigan I picked, A Cold Day in Paradise by Steve Hamilton. Its the first in a series by a Michigan author set in Michigan. Very excited to read this! If it had not been for this reading challenge I most likely would not have found this author. :)

Just read His Whole Life by Elizabeth Hay and highly recommend it for those living in Canada ... well for everyone, but for this particular category the author is Canadian.

I had great problems with this category last year. Initially I was focusing on "town or city" and this was tough. I found one book, but I have been procrastinating with it for 30 years and still not motivated enough for it. Your interpretation of county, state or country expands this a lot. Last year I simply changed my interpretation of town from "the town I was born in", which is a rather small place in the North of Spain to "the town(city) where I live" which luckily is London. Guys, is this cheating?

My DH just finished it and we just saw the movie. We also passed it on to a friend who loves it.

I just became aware of La Guerrera del Valle, which is historical medieval fiction set right by my doorstep (twenty-odd years ago, when I lived in the North of Spain), and it is written by my sister's BFF in High School. It will do. . .

I live in Ontario, Canada and read the hilariously funny short stories in Vinyl Cafe Turns the Page by Stuart McLean. A great read!

North Carolina: four books recommended by Our State magazine.
They are: Bearwallow by Jeremy Jones (just out). About the NC mountains shaping the life of a boy.
Little Boy Blues by Malcom Jones. Growing up in North Carolina in the 50s and 60s.
Dimestores by Lee Smith. Book is based in Grundy, Virginia but the author now lives Hillsborough, NC.
Barefoot to Avalon by David Payne. Story of a family tragedy. Author lives in Hillsborough, NC.

I will put Bearwallow on my want to read list.

I was really excited to learn that Erika Swyler, author of The Book of Speculation is from New York (Long Island specifically, where I am from), so that is what I will be reading for this category.

(Note: this book is also a book about books, a debut novel, and a book set by the sea)

Should the book be from a province/state/country where you are currently living or where you grew up? I lived most of my life in Germany but am now living in Ohio. I'm sure this has been specified somewhere before but I can't seem to find that information...

For this task I read The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny who is Canadian. While the book is mainly set in Quebec, there is a link to my home province of New Brunswick as well.

For those living in Ontario! The Orenda by Joseph Boyden is a great choice! I was reading this book for another goodreads club, and was going to put it under North America, but discovered the Joseph Boyden was born in Toronto!!
