Valerie | 280 comments I read this year about a tradition in Iceland about spending Christmas Day reading books. http://www.npr.org/2012/12/25/1675379...

Because many of us have off on the New Year's Day, and because it is the beginning of our challenge, I thought it might be fun to do a day of reading on the first...I am planning on spending the day reading. My hope is to get at least a couple of books polished off. Depending on their length.

In the past, we have done Twilight marathons, but I think a reading marathon is a better choice.

Anyone else want to join me?

Teresa Kander I'm in! I can watch football and read at the same time! LOL

message 3: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Regan Me, too! I had sort of planned on it anyway. Now I'll know I'm in good company. I'll still be reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, a leftover from 2015.

message 4: by Elle Belle (new)

Elle Belle (michellele) | 13 comments I'll most likely be reading, and cooking, anyway - so why not? I'm in!

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 229 comments I have a 3 & 5 year old, so my reading time revolves around their schedule. I could probably read a short one though.

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teremazon) My husband is away and I have a cold, so I am planning New Year's Eve AND New Year's Day just lazing around in the settee and reading. Hopefully ticking off a couple of entries for the challenge. I'm IN! Definitely!

I'll definitely be doing some reading on the 1st, though if the weather holds I must get outside for a walk too! I have three books to finish, so I'll focus on those before starting any for the challenge!

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I'll be there! I'm purposefully getting my drudgery work done ahead of time so I can do nothing all day! Reading day here I come!

message 9: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) I'm catching a cold. I will be reading all day on January 1.

Me too - sounds like a good plan. With lots of tea!

Elle Belle (michellele) | 13 comments I'd like to recommend that any reading one does with or to one's children is totally acceptable and counts in every way imaginable (I am a teacher). Never underestimate children's picture books or juvenile literature - it fuels creativity and inspires the soul! Happy New Year's and Happy Reading!

Agreed!

message 13: by Alison (new)

Alison (akitchenwife) I am going to be reading at midnight I think to get started on the right foot, got to work on getting my Christmas decorations out away as well

message 14: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) I'm currently away on vacation with my family, so I'll probably spend New Year's Day sleeping off the New Year's Eve party and then on the beach. I can get a book at least halfway done while lazying in the sun, though.

La_mariane | 36 comments I'm reading along. The 1st of january (like Boxing day) is what I call a "day in parenthesis" : I do nothing but read and watch a bit of TV, drink tea, and my mother does it too. Those days are so relaxing.

Valerie | 280 comments Thanks for joining me. May you all have a wonderfully blessed New Year! With lots of books!!

And, we are off. I am going to try and get at least two done. I have two for my book club. One is a YA, so that should be a quick read.

Coffee, blanket, warm cat! Go!!!

That sounds wonderful Valerie! :)

message 18: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I'm in my favorite chair with my favorite blanket with strong coffee. I'm ready to read! I set a 100 book goal this year, I have never tried to read that many and I might be crazy to try! Today I'd like to read 2 books to get a good start! There is pretty snow coming down this morning so I guess I better stay in!

message 19: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) I just finished one and am on my way to finish another! I may even start a third!

message 20: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Kander Finished my first...have two others I'm trying to finish by day's end.

message 21: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) Hopefully will finish one today and make progress in another.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah K I was just logging on to Goodreads to mark two books off my list as read when I saw this chain. What a wonderful idea! Great minds must think alike. I have a few errands to run and then I'll be picking up a third book I'd been working on for a while in 2015. Everyone enjoy your new year.

message 23: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments Wahoo!! Looks like we are doing really well. Taking a break...eating...and, checking the thread. I just finished number two, and starting on three. We are all doing well!

And, for those who are only dabbling a little today...what a great start to the new year! READING!!

message 24: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) I just started my third! My first book will already count for the challenge and probably this third one too!

message 25: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 229 comments I just finished "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" & now I'm on to "Winter Solstice"!

message 26: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Kander Finished up two that I already had in progress: A Free Unsullied Land and A Criminal Magic, as well as reading all of Shamrock Shenanigans. Getting ready to start A Stabbing In The Senate soon.

message 27: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments Good job, everyone! Working on my third. Hope to finish before end of day!

message 28: by La_mariane (new)

La_mariane | 36 comments I just finished my book : Les Villes De La Plaine: Roman. It was amazing, and if anyone reads French, I highly recommend it.

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I finished 2 books that I had started in December. I'm counting them on this year since that is when I finished them. ;) Then I read a third book on Audio to finish day off. 3 books down 97 more to go for my challenge!

message 30: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments Third one done. What a joy to just read...and, read. Back to life, and chores, tomorrow.

message 31: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) I just finished my first book of the year. My cold isn't cooperating by making my eyes hurt, so I probably won't read another full book in the next 3 hours. Still, a nice way to spend New Year's Day, especially since I didn't feel like doing anything else but read.

Good for you!! Having a cold is hard thing to do on the first day of the year...but, you made it work for you! Good job, and I hope you feel better soon.
