From what you know/read did the life of Vietnam vets seem realistic?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Yes. In fact, their post war experiences might even have been downplayed.

My Dad was a Vietnam vet and this story was so dead on. We experienced it.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments It certainly felt real, although I didn't know about the drugs that financed Vietnamese criminals in collusion to set them up in this country. I knew there were drugs, but I was not aware of the depth of corruption that lasted so long once vets were stateside.

So true.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments It definitely seemed real, even the desire to stick around when the military forces pulled out. I work with veterans, mostly the younger ones coming out of the more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. You'd be surprised at how many of them verbalize a desire to be back in combat zones. The skills that kept them alive over there have no use in civilian life and many of them find the transition to their home lives difficult.

There were men during that era that voluntarily pulled multiple tours. My friend's father stayed there for six years.
