The 5th Wave Book vs. Movie

I'm starting this one today. I'm a little leary because I don't like depressing or some lots of violence, but it sounds really good and I liked the trailer too.
It's out in theaters on 1/22 so we should start seeing ads for it soon.

I'm almost done. It really picks up about half way through. I will be reading book 2, but probably not right away, but in Jan.
I just watched an interview with Zackary Arthur, who plays Sammy. He was absolutely fabulous. For a little boy he was so intelligent, charming and kind. His parent must be so proud. I can't wait for the movie.
I have finished the book and now I'm starting Dare me.
-Cassie and Sammy were my favorite characters. I loved all the nick names and that the young adults were smart, but they behaved like young adults.
-Parts of the plot were intriguing, like why they couldn't tell who was an alien and who wasn't. That made for some suspense. Although this book is not tagged as a thriller, it's more of a thriller than many books that I have read that are tagged as a thriller.
-The thing I liked least was all the violence, but I realize it was necessary for the plot. Cassie made it more interesting too.
-I would like to ask the author if he believes in aliens.

2. What did you like the least about the book? I didn't care much about Ben, I don't really know why. His POV's were the reason it took me longer to finish this, I couldn't get pass them sometimes because I would pick up another book instead.
3. Did any characters stand out to you? Cassie and Evan, and Ringer. I'm curious about her, I want to know more in book 2.
4. Would you recommend this book? Yes, definitely! For anyone looking for a dystopian YA with a little bit of suspense and lots of action, with a dash of romance.
5. Were there any lessons learned? I guess to start preparing for a potential alien invasion, you never know when it may happen hahaha
6. If you could ask the author one question what would it be? It would be what inspired him to write this book and what were his sources for the research on aliens and all the stuff he used in the book.
The 5th Wave hit theaters Friday. Has anybody seen it yet? They are saying that the monster storm "Jonas," that spread across a third of the US, dropped movies receipts by up to 17%.

Glad you loved it Cindy. Have you read the rest of the series? I have book 2 and I plan to start it in the next week or so.

No I haven't read the rest of the series but I do have book two. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Best laid plans...I've haven't started book 2 yet, but I have watched the movie. The movie didn't do well at the box office and there are no plans for "An Infinite Sea." The movie was released during a massive blizzard in US, which really affected ticket sales.
I liked the movie and I was ok with the casting, although chemistry was weak between many characters. Like most books into movies the movie lost some of it's depth and heart. The emotional attachment is lost because you don't spend that much time with any of the characters (and some poor execution.) It's understandable as the book takes numerous hours to read and the movie is around 2 hours, but it could have been better.
When books are made into movies or TV the producers should at the very least have a variety of readers who loved the book screen the movie before final production. I think input from readers would be really valuable. Movies are usually screened by their target audience (they use the feedback to make changes) so it wouldn't be hard to add some book fans into the mix.
There are many differences between the book and movie including:
1. Crisco doesn't appear in the movie.
2. Changes were made regarding a pivotal scene with Cassie's father.
3. Sergeant Reznik was female in movie. It worked I was ok with the change. There was also a change with how a certain event happened. It wasn't a big deal.
4. Cassie isn't rescued in a blizzard.
5. Chris isn't in the movie.
6. There was no Wonderland in the movie. That was a big one for me.
There were many little changes too that really didn't matter in the end.
Has anybody else watched the movie or read the book?

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
