Yay! Let's keep the discussion flowing! What are some of your favorite things so far? Favorite scenes? Anything you NEED to talk about?

Lindsey Daniels | 5 comments Kaladin’s Story: I LOVE ROCK. SO SO SO MUCH. Okay, so ignoring Kaladin for now, I am totally obsessed with Rock! He provides so much comic relief for not only the characters, but myself and several times I have just burst into laughter from his lines. The side characters in this book are definitely starting to get increasingly more developed! Speaking of, I really appreciate how we get to watch Syl evolve: she learns what lying and dishonesty are and she DOES NOT like it. Kaladin himself continues to have his own badassery and I can’t wait to see where the storyline goes next now that Bridge Four is starting to get their game together. I am worried that Moash (or whatever his name is) is going to totally ruin a future plan of Kaladin’s or something and end up getting bridgemen killed!! I think Brandon Sanderson has gotten Kaladin up to a point now where he has grown as a character and now has renewed determination and we will hopefully soon get to witness what he does with it!

Also I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WITH HIS BROTHER????? I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO GET THAT SOONER INSTEAD OF LATER! Ajkdsfhadklfjhalmdfnklamfal <- Thoughts in my head when I really want to know things to get really excited about things, hahaha

Adolin/Dalinar Story: SO THE ENDING OF PART 2, WHAAAAAT? I mean, I saw it coming from the beginning of the last chapter, but not any time before that. And like, it definitely makes sense that Dalinar is going to abdicate to Adolin but WE ALL KNOW THAT DALINAR IS RIGHT AND EVERYONE SHOULD LISTEN TO HIM AND AHHHHHHHHHH! So worried about all of the characters involved in this storyline, including the king! No idea what is going to happen when Adolin is in charge (except my guess is that he is going to freak out a little?) And then what is Dalinar going to do now??? As far as the new characters go in the storyline, I really like Dalinar. He reminds me of Ned Stark (lawful good) except the visions he has (WHICH ARE SO COOL AND TOTALLY REAL) and his overall awesomeness level make him ten times more interesting. As far as Adolin goes, I like him and I appreciate him, but I don’t love him. I think that is because I know what’s going on in Dalinar’s head and so from a reader’s perspective I want everything to go Dalinar’s way and so when Adolin sees flaws in Dalinar it upsets me. My impression of the king is questionable, but I think this comes from the view I am developing of Alethi culture. Coming from a modern point of view, I think all of the war and competition is kind of childish? I don’t really know a good word for it, but I don’t like it. Saldeas FASCINATES me. Although I am hesitant about him, and we don’t really know his full story yet, I think I like him. He kind of reminds me of like a Snape-esc character, and overall I have decided to trust him. I think that his behaviors against Dalinar just make him interesting (which I know makes me kind of a hypocrite when compared to my views of Alodin).

I am super curious as to why Dalinar lost the memories of his wife…that’s really, really strange. The last chapter of the section made me like Jasnah even more than I already do, and I am hoping we get more Jasnah in Part 3!! (:

DUDE YOU READ MY MIND! I'm not even kidding, I have a note on my phone that says almost all of what you just said! hah.

Here is some stream of consciousness I jotted down while reading this part:

Shardplates/shard armor is full body armor= awesomee

Chasm scene was cool, kind of boring in parts but overall cool. It reminded me of something out of a Greek myth--Dalinar holding the beast foot off of the king.

I like how traditional the male and female roles are, not really degrading towards woman but still holds an "old fashion-ness" to it. I'm waiting for a woman to just break all the rules though. I'm thinking Jasnah ;)

So far I really like the Ardants (is that how you spell it?) I liked the interaction we got to see between Shallan and Kabsule, and I also like Cadish, the way he talked to Adolin was interesting.

What is up with Renarin and his blood disease? I want to know more!

Kay now time for the specific things!

Kaladin:

I also really liked Rock! His voice is so funny on the audio book and I'm always looking forward to his parts! I also live around mountains and every time he says "Air sick low-landers" it makes me giggle. I also really like what Kal is trying to do with bridge four and I can't wait to see what happens with it! Syl is also one of my favorite side characters, I love watching her grow and the way she is around Kal is just really awesome. I kind of have a prediction that Syl is around Kal for a very (maybe has to do with the magic that Kal has, because I'm convinced that he has magic of some sort) specific reason and Rock can see her because of that reason. I don't know. Kal's going back in time parts are really interesting and I want to know everything about his past! Also I hate Gaz with a passion. OH! And what Kal did with the spear?! WTH was that? I need to know more!

That's all with Kal for now!

Dalinar :
Oh Dalinar. He is probably my favorite character at this point. I also feel the same exact way as you, Lindsey, DALINAR IS NOT CRAZY AND HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT! Gah. I also see him as a Ned Stark though I've only watched the first season of GoT but I think that's okay for this connection. I like Adolin to an extent and I think he could be a great character, but come one dude. Get off you're dad's back and just believe him!! It makes me dislike him a little that he is making Dalinar question everything. AND AN ABDICATION?! Nooo it can't happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something changes his mind or that Adolin refuses to take the spot or something. I think Adolin would be good at and all that but Dalinar needs to do what the visions are telling him! Speaking of vision, I think the vision is one of the coolest things I've seen so far! I really liked that part, also Sanderson built them up to be something really interesting and the vision itself delivered so much!

I'm going to stick Sadas in this part because I don't have much to say about him. On one hand I trust him, but on the closer hand I don't. I think he is going to turn around and steal High Prince Of War away from Dalinar, which at this point wouldn't really matter but if Dalinar doesn't abdicate it could be!

Also I do not trust the king. I half think he knows exactly what he is doing and is just playing at being naive but we will have to see.

I really don't know how I feel about the king's mom. I know Sanderson always keeps his relationships on the back burner and never really makes them a big deal but I kind of want Dalinar to be in love. Maybe not with her, but with someone! (I would be okay with her I think though. I'm confused on my feelings for her)

Jasnah is just awesome and I really can't wait to learn more about her. I trust her whole heartily (mostly because Dalinar does.)

I really appreciate how crazy Sanderson is making this world without just killing off characters or doing anything cliche really. I'm just enjoying this books soooo muuch. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my new favorite series.

Whew I hope that wasn't too much! I really had a lot to say! hah. I hope everyone is enjoying the book as much as me!

Lindsey Daniels | 5 comments I totally agree with you about Kaladin having magic! My guess is that he is capable of doing the magic Szeth does, or at least something very similar. The spear scene was so so so epic!!

I don't know how to feel about the king's mom either! Dalinar's point of view makes me wary of her, but it seems his wariness is just because he doesn't want to marry her. I would like to see Dalinar fall in love and be happy in that regard too. I like him too much to want anything else!
