We have a buddy read scheduled for January! Kris and Elena are planning to read this together. All are welcome.

Make your own rules...or not:)

Elena | 101 comments Alrighty! Let's get this party started :P
(I'm such a geek!!)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
Kris and Elena, have you started this yet?

Elena | 101 comments Starting on Monday!

Tina (trwriteratwork) | 79 comments I'm planning to order this one in a few weeks, maybe next month. So, I won't be joining the buddy read but I loved the blurb and can't wait to read it!

Once you get the book, you can always check back here and leave comments as you read... We will discuss it then :)

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) I haven't read too much of The Liar this week but have the weekend off so will hopefully get a big chunk done.

Elena | 101 comments ok my thoughts so far :
- Her lying, cheating husband dies and leaves her in debt for MILLIONS of dollars?! Why would she pay?! Why is it her responsibility when she had nothing to do with his businesses and the debt is not in her name? Who would even expect her to pay off his massive scam debts?!

SEcondly, even if this debt was in her name, couldn't she just declare bankruptcy and move on with her life?!

Elena | 101 comments Ok , she clarifies this :
The heroine doesn't want to just "ditch" the debt, because "this is not the way she is" - she decides to pay if all off herself! Wow - MarySue... Not liking her :)

And the hero - seems like a boring, small-town guy ... no offence...

So far, though, I really do like the plot in terms of the wife being married practically to a stranger... so I hope more good comes out of that plot line...

OMG, I was so angry on her behalf! I understand her wanting to pay this off - as she was raised to be responsible and she probably feels like this is her penance for being with him and being duped. At least that is the feeling I got from her.

Lol, that is what I liked about him - he is steady responsible - completely different from Richard. Maybe in my older age I am liking the steady boring guy.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) I finished the book as I had a day off and could get through it. I will wait till you finish Elena but will comment as you do!

Elena | 101 comments ok ... so far the following has happened:
- the chick was murdered outside of the bar
- GRiff has been rear-ended and thrown into a ditch, by a guy who was paid by that evil girl from Shelby's high school (or was it even him? hmmm)
- why is that girl from Shelby's high school so mean to her? jeez! these are grown women , not teenage girls... I find that to be a bit unrealistic, but what do I know!? :)
- very cute relationship between Griff and Callie... :)
- soooo ... Richard stashed some loot and now his past partners-in-crime are looking for it.... The girl criminal ended up dead... Is Richard still alive by some chance ? Or is it just that guy (who was supposed to be in jail for 20 years but escaped) ?

That;s true... He did grow on me :)
He is really sweet and nice ! I just wish he'd show a bit of a bite... he might yet, there is still time :) ...

Melody is one of those people that stays in that high school mentality...I have never wanted to slap someone so much! But to pay someone to hurt Shelby is so beyond crazy. I felt so bad for Griff getting hurt.

Yes, I love the relationship between Callie and Griff too!

Keeping my lips sealed ;)

Elena | 101 comments Ahhh I called it - Richard WAS alive :)
And Griff did show some bite towards the end... nice ...

Overall - good! This was a pretty suspenseful and quick read...

I was suspecting that Richard was alive, so it wasn't that much of a twist for me - it was a bit predictable...but it was still a good read!

What did you think ?

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Yeah I figured Richard was alive too. When they can't find the body I always get suspicious lol.

I enjoyed this book - it had a great romance story with awesome family dynamics with just a little mystery to keep you going :)

Thanks for motivating me to read The Liar this month, Elena! I am down for another one in March if you have the time.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Good review...I will post the link when I get to mine.

Elena | 101 comments Sure, we can do another one!
I still have the Search , that I haven't read and probably a bunch more of her older ones... How about you? Anything in particular you were interested in?

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) I haven't read The Search either...let's go with that? I will end you a list of what I haven't read and see if we have any in common. :)

yes! sounds like a plan!
:)

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Yay! I'm excited. Would you like me to send through PM?

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 342 comments I really liked The Liar but I LOVED The Search! Enjoy! Would you mind if I joined in if you're going to read any I haven't gotten to yet? I'm currently reading Bed of Roses Book 2 in the Bride Quartet.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Karen - oh now I am excited to start. And of course, Karen. I will post my list of books I want to read and see if any strike your fancy!

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 342 comments Great, Kris. I looked at the ones Elena listed. I haven't read Chasing Fire yet. I don't know if you've read that one. Actually I just started reading NR last year so I haven't read that many of hers.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) I have read that one...but you two can plan on that and we can find another one.

Elena | 101 comments Sure Kris, you can PM me, or u can post here as well for Karen , too!

Karen - i've finished Chasing Fire maybe two weeks ago, I actually did a buddy read and i will post you the link where we were discussing it, if u want to comment as you read and discuss...

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 342 comments Okay, great. Thanks, Elena.

Elena | 101 comments Here is the discussion link for Chasing Fire, sorry about the delay, I got sidetracked :)

Dinou R Would you believe it is my 1st Nora Roberts book? I liked it (although I found it lengthy at times). Anyway, I joined this group to get ideas of "titles" to read (so many from her). I too guessed the false death, very much liked both main characters & a big plus for my audio edition narrated by January LaVoy: great.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Yay, hope you can join us for more discussions.

Elena | 101 comments Dinou - Nora has some really good ones... but lately she can be a hit or a miss for me! Generally though, I like her books!
Hopefully you join more discussions!

Dinou R Thanks. I'm on Northern Lights by Nora Roberts Northern Lights. Freezing!

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) Dinou wrote: "Thanks. I'm on Northern Lights by Nora RobertsNorthern Lights. Freezing!"

I will be reading this one this month too!

message 37: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 199 comments I am very late to the party. I listened to this, and really enjoyed the narration. I love Callie as well. I also figured Richard/Jake...was alive, so that wasn't a big hit for me. I loved that a the female grifter wasn't legally married to him either. I think as long as the IRS thought she was his legal wife, she was responsible for the debt. As a wife you are next of kin and legally responsible for your husband's debt. She could file bankruptcy, but not on taxes. But once she was not legally married to him, no way she was liable for the debt, but Vi caught that as well. I enjoyed the book, but some stuff was pretty far out there. As for Melody, some people hold their high school grudges and petty behavior continues. I used to work with grown women who still cliqued up and treated people they didn't like horribly. We dubbed the the Mean Girls, even though they were mothers. So that wasn't a stretch for me. I liked that both Richard and Jimmy lived to go to prison.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) We like latecomers, Dawn! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Elena | 101 comments Dawn - I agree - some grown women still act straight out of Mean Girls!
