Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) Greetings Space Opera Fans!

What happens when you narrowly avoid conviction for a time you didn't commit, only to be dropped down into a black hole and trapped in cryo-sleep for, oh, a few hundred years? That's the premise behind Pursue the Past.

Pursue the Past Samair in Argos Book 1 by Michael Kotcher Michael Kotcher

Tamara Samair, a decorated Republic Naval officer, narrowly avoids a wrongful conviction at the hands of a jealous subordinate. Dropped in the void and left for dead, lost in survival sleep for centuries, she awakes to find her world has changed and hitches a ride on a decrepit freighter. Tamara and the crew work together to fix the dying ship, try to fight off pirates with a Republic Naval warship captain ruthlessly pursuing them, all while trying to turn a profit. The Argos Cluster is a dangerous place, but some of the worst threats are those left behind.

Fiannawolf | 163 comments *flails* It feels like a wonderful mix of Harrington, Babylon 5, and Firefly.

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) Don't forget Andromeda :-) They -did- pull him out of the event horizon of a black hole :-)

John Abbott | 73 comments Oh awesome. I have had this a while, he is an author in one of my Facebook Groups. I bought his book during a week long monthly sale. It always sounded good to me.

I am finishing up another book and I will start this one right away!

I believe that it is. I looked for other formats, but didn't find any others.

John Abbott | 73 comments By the way having a good read of it. I am only about 20% through, but I was reading another book at the same time. Now it'll have all my attention!

Fiannawolf | 163 comments That was my reaction also. Something about this series just sucked me in really quick. Like Babylon 5 or BSG quick.

Sidenote: I wish it was in more formats. Is there a way to convert the mobi file after you get it from Amazon? To use on a different reader ect?

I just checked and it appears it comes bogged down with DRM, so no :-( If it said 'simultaneous device usage' then you could use the free Calibre ebook management software to convert it into any format you wanted.

Fiannawolf | 163 comments Dangit! Because it is a fun series.

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) This is where I sprout my evil devil-horns and urge readers to contact the author and say 'Dude! DRM is a royal pain-in-the-@$$!!!"

John Abbott | 73 comments You can probably send him a Facebook message, he is Mike Kotcher there. Haven't seen him post in some of the groups I am in for a little bit though.

I am finally almost done with this book. Taking me a bit as I went from one longer book to another, sometimes I try to feed my brain something less robust.

In any case this has been a fantastic story and glad that it was this months winner. I had it in my Kindle list, but just hadn't gotten to it. I've also found out that I have the second book. Lol. Someday I will actually look at all the books I've bought and hadn't read yet.

Seconded! I have always refused to have anything of mine DRMed, because having readable copies of my older stuff floating around advertises what I'm trying to sell now.

This was a short story I published in '08 http://www.concatenation.org/futures/... http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/...

Because it was freely available after a while it attracted the attention of an editor and I was commissioned to write this: http://ec.europa.eu/research/innovati...

for which I was paid a very good royalty.

The moral of the story is that by rejecting DRM I calculate that I have roughly doubled my lifetime royalties.

Xephon Has anyone got any update on this series ? There hasn't been an update as far as i can tell after book 8. Will this series continue or is it done ? Is the author still alive ??
