SFF Readalongs led by Kitty G discussion

This is the thread where you can all discuss why this was a book that you voted for and wanted to read in the month of January! What is it that you have heard about this that makes you want to try it out? What are you hoping for?
It's a fairly long book, so good luck to everyone and I hope there's a lot of discussion for this one as it's pretty intriguing from what I've so far read (I will be joining in as I've only read a quarter of this so far myself!)

I got/voted for it because it was on audio at my library and because it isn't part of a series. I also enjoyed the historical fiction aspect of the novel. Finally I enjoy that it's a long novel.
