Chickadee I have a question! I started reading Marvel Comics Civil War series and was curious if these counted as "books" for the challenge. I just finished On the Road to Civil War and was going to read The Civil War and count those together as 1 book.

And what about certain magazines? Discover, Smithsonian, scientific journals, etc. If you read at least 100 pages from these type of magazines, do they count as a book for the challenge?

I'm afraid magazines don't count. As for comic books, I've told others elsewhere that they'll count if they're part of a "volume," such as Neil Gaiman's Marvel 1609.

No page count. If it's an anthology of short stories that recognized in Goodreads system, it counts.

Awesome, because I want to read that very book, thanks to you. :D

It was one of my favorite reads last year!

Daniel | 2 comments Am I correct in assuming that stand-alone short stories without chapters don't count toward the hundred book total?

message 8: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) My understanding is that they would not if they were in magazines because magazines do not count. However, book anthologies of short stories do count.

As Jeffrey says, if they're in an anthology, the entire anthology counts. And if the individual stories are big enough to have their own separate listings here on Goodreads (e.g., they're really novella sized), that would count as well.

Yep, it's all good. Doesn't matter what the subject matter is.

Natasha | 1 comments Just for clarification: would volumes of manga count? As I've read a couple recently.

Yes, anything that is counted a single book in the Goodreads system.

Rick Presley | 18 comments I just re-read the Harry Potter series but Goodreads won't let me log them as books I've read this year. Is there a way around that? Or do re-reads not count even though I was paying attention to writerly stuff like her use of misdirection on each individual book level and then in a macro way with Snape's character arc and the price of Harry's goal not being revealed until the last novel.

message 16: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) I don't understand why it won't let you log them as a read book! I have read three of the Harry Potter series this year, and I have had no trouble logging them as books read.

Have you guys tried resetting the "finished on" date to this year? I think that might be the trick.

message 18: by Rick (new)

Rick Presley | 18 comments OK. I'll try that. I have them as read, but they don't have a setting for re-read. LOL.

message 19: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) Goodreads really needs a setting for re-reads!!!
