Mort was my first Pratchett read. I was hooked. For me he really started to find his feet with this one and it feels a bit more polished and in keeping with other Discworld books than the first three do.
Mort has been the Pratchett story I've been looking forward to the most. I've always loved the ANTHROPOMORPHIC PERSONIFICATION that is Death, and Pratchetts take was sure to be fun. (I even waited to read this one, so the few of us committed to this can do it together)
I'm about halfway though now, just past the point where Pratchett introduces everything, and you have followed your main characters around just enough to like them, and have just started the 'conflict' part.
So far so good. Mort himself is interesting, giving the story a growing up/ coming of age feel.
Death is great, his signature grinding concrete voice, perfected by that actor that I can't remember in the cartoon.
I feel like I'm laughing more than I did at Equal Rites, and the humour seems a little subtler, more refined and witty.
