Bess | 2584 comments Hey Melanie, I'm not getting any notifications from the group. Do you think it would be a good idea to exit the group and then re-enter?

message 3: by Melanie, ✞Moderator, Avid Reader, & Blogger ✞ (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) | 9915 comments Mod
You could try that! If that doesn't work, I think you can edit the notifications -- just don't remember where exactly. I'll do some searching in case exiting/returning doesn't help.

Bess | 2584 comments So, are you guys getting ready for Pesach and the resurrection?

What part of the country are you all located? I'm in the Phoenix area.

Michaila (michailareads) My family has always supported World Vision. Now my current youthgroup is raising money during World Vision's 30 hour famine. I'm going to go 30 hours without food, and would be delighted if you all would sponsor me, and my youth group. ALL money is donated to hungry children around the world.

Chaya, I'm so sorry, I did not see this until now! Where have I been?! Yes, we were ready for the Pesach and had a blast. I hosted my first seder! I was so nervous but it went really well!! I missed a couple of the elements due to nervousness but went back and partook of them regardless. (shaking my head!) Now, we remember Yom Hashoah tonight. We don't do a lot...just light a candle and say a prayer for the families that were touched. How about you? What do you do for Yom Hashoah?

Shalom!!

That's ok, Bess! I'm just now back on here since Pesach! :) No worries. Congrats on hosting your 1st seder! :) I'm sure it was wonderful. :)
There are vigils, but we won't be going anywhere this evening. One of the things is I pray it never happens again and a lot of thinking. I write some of my thoughts, I have so many. And cry. And pray, talking with God. I intend to pause at the same time as Israelis stop everything to remember in silence.

What a great idea! I will copy you and pause when Israel does. I'll join in the prayers that such travesty doesn't occur again. There are so many tears. I know Abba's heart hurts for what happened.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) We all should pray for southern Texas as it braces for a life threatening hurricane (hurricane Harvey) headed their way that is going to cause catastrophic damage and flooding. Most of the southern Texas coast is being evacuated. This will be the first category 3+ hurricane to make landfall in 11+ years! 😟 https://weather.com/

message 38: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments So glad my Galveston vacation was at the beginning of this month instead of the end! May God protect the people as they evacuate and any who stay behind. May His shield of protection prevent loss of life.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) HOUSTON SUBMERGED: HISTORIC HARVEY FLOOD

The Weather Channel said Houston has received a whole year's worth of rain in just a few days, and there's more to come. This is the worst case scenario for Houston.

PHOTOS: Harvey Turns Houston Into Lake

There are also tornado warnings in the Houston area.

Anyone with loved ones in the Houston area, or anywhere in southeastern Texas, please call them to make sure they're okay asap.

Now a very large tropical storm stalling over southern Texas, Harvey has already claimed five lives, and this death toll is expected to rise in the coming hours/days...

Please keep praying...

message 40: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 27, 2017 11:48AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) The National Weather Service said that the flooding event in southeastern Texas and neighboring areas "is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced" - beyond anything ever experienced in U.S. history! They are calling this epic, catastrophic flooding.

This storm could continue to stall and circulate over the same areas through Thursday or Friday of next week!

The National Weather Service on Twitter can be found here.

I can't help but share this news because prayers are still very much needed.

message 41: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Thanks for the updates, Monique. I had just heard on the Weather Channel that there have been three deaths, but I guess they haven't heard of the other two. Still praying.

message 42: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Sep 07, 2017 10:50AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) The other two deaths were a mother and child reported dead in a submerged vehicle in an inaccessible area. 😢 This news came from the Harris County Sheriff.

UPDATE
Harvey's Death Toll: 71+ (as of September 6th) 😢

Hi, everyone! My blog is focused on content ratings. I'm relatively new to this area--any tips?

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Also, should I include discussion questions for each thing I review?

message 46: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Hi R.S. When I read a blog article that is a book review, I like seeing one to three discussion questions at the end of the article. Those typically prompt me to comment on the blog, so they are great conversation starters. Best wishes!

What is your blog address? I'd like to take a look at it when I have a chance.

Every major road in and out of Houston is submerged in parts. I'm safe as is my family. Pray for Harvey to go away.
