I was surprised in this chapter they call Daenerys Dani sometimes. They don't on the show if I can recall correctly.

Sorry but I can't help but relate the show and the book to each other.

Good book so far.

I really like Viserys. Now, I know he's horrible, but I am obsessed with his character. He's so hypocritical, he is described as gaunt multiple time throughout the character yet considers Daernerys to be "too skinny". He's paranoid, thinks there are hired knives always following him. Whether that's true or not, we don't know. He's abusive towards Dany, and while that's horrible we understand why. He has been with his sister, travelling, constantly afraid of death. All he wants to do is get back his father's throne and the only way of doing that is to marry Dany off. She has to be perfect in his eyes. If she fails, that means that he fails and he is a few steps behind his beloved throne.

Viserys also doesn't think, he doesn't see the truth behind other people's honey covered words so to speak. Illyrio is a constant flatterer, saying that people sew flags with their sigil on it. Do we know this is true? No. But Viserys eats up every word while Daenerys is the one that questions it all.

thoughts while reading:
I wonder if/how much Viserys abused Daenerys.
Viserys is described as being twitchy and with him always on thinking they were being chased/followed he probably suffered from extreme paranoia.
It's odd how much Illyrio sweet talks Viserys. It almost seems like he's TOO hopeful (if that makes sense). Daenerys doesn't trust him so maybe?

That's a valid point about how hypocritical Viserys is. I've never noticed that!
