Why do you think Nick was so willing to eliminate Father Keller as a suspect?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Nick had been altar boy for the older priest, still in residence. I suspect that his positive memories of his youth colored his attitude toward the local younger priest.

Phrynne | 607 comments I suppose he respected him for his position in the church. Maybe in 2006 when this was written the Catholic church was not as infamous as it is now for wrongs committed by a few of its members. Today we would be much quicker to believe the possibility.

You both make good points.

Very good point. With the priest scandals in the limelight it is much easier to come to the conclusion that a priest could be a predator.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments Good points! I guess I was very quick to think that the Church isn't always innocent!

Phrynne | 607 comments Yes I was too. I decided it was Father Kellar with no evidence at all!!!

message 8: by Melissa (new) - added it

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments I just figured it was because he was a priest and loved by so many people in the community. He was so good with the kids and the kids really looked up to him. He was right, though. If he suspected him the community would have gone against him.

Viki (vikir) | 28 comments I think because he didnt believe that a priest would do that and Nick knew the community would not believe him, especially since they already think he is not doing his job, so they would think he only said ot because Maggie told him.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Viki, you add an interesting part of the picture here. Thanks.

Mary Beth | 193 comments I think that since Nick was an altar boy, he looked up to him and wouldnt think that a priest would be a monster. Also he didnt want the community to dislike him because if he didnt think he did it the community wouldnt either.
