What are your thoughts and impressions of Nick? What do you think he did well?

He definitely began to grow up; even the beginning of his part of the story indicates that he had become tired of being the playboy football hero. When the new murders began on his watch, I think his underdeveloped conscience about his position sparked into life.

Nick certainly ranks as one of the most empty main characters I've read. He was an awful Sheriff, which was borne out immediately at the start of the story when he trashed the crime scene. He was a hound dog from the beginning and, frankly, I have no idea why he fell in love with Maggie. No one seemed to respect him and he caved when confronting his belligerent and demeaning father.

What he did well? Relied on Maggie and eventually knew not to trust his team.

Even more odd was that Maggie had any interest in him!

Lol! This man was no challenge.

Interesting perspectives here. It actually makes what happens in later books more understandable.

My impression of Nick is that he never should have let his father talk him into running for Sheriff. It felt like he had no interest in the job. I can see why some of his employees might not respect him.

I also think Nick was used to gliding through life based on his looks and charm. He didn't know how to be any deeper and was content to just please his father.

Oh yes, it seemed what Nick wanted, Nick got. I think he was way out of his depth as Sheriff!

Nick is smart and a ladies man. He's also a "boy" that got thrown into a position he really didn't want because his dad told him to do it. He's confused too. I don't think he really knows what he wants. I agree that he did grow up a bit as the story moved along, but he still doesn't need to be the sheriff. Jonetta was right, he's not very good at it.

At the beginning, i wasnt sure about him but by the end, i liked how he decide to do something he wants not what his father wanted. He defintely is trying to please his father.

I think Nick was very weak as a sheriff. I think he was a people pleaser meaning that he was so worried about what other people thought of him. He did have good charisma where a job working in an attorneys office would be good for him. He just seemed to do what everyone else wanted him to do, instead of what he wanted to do, like following a career that his dad wanted him to do and willing to eliminate Father Keller as the suspect because he was so worried what other people in the community would think of him.

It was all about appearance for Nick.

It really was.
