Purple Iris (purpleiris) | 61 comments Hi. I just joined this group because I really need to read from one of my shelves for a research project. So I'm doing the shelving unit. I have no idea how to add links, but thanks so much for setting this up. Hopefully it will be the motivation I need!

Roz | 39 comments I've set up my challenges but I've encountered a problem.
The 2 books I've read for Serial Eyes show up on their shelf, but they also show up on Left Over Stew even though I didn't put them on that shelf, and the book I did put on LOS (The Winter People) doesn't get counted. Screwy.

These are my challenges for 2016:

And The Award Goes To 10
Back in the Saddle 5
Doorstoppers 6
Double Dog Dare 10
eDingus 10
Home Alone 15
Left Over Stew 10
Serial Eyes 30
That's Unreal 20 Historical Fiction
Where's Your Card 20

Hmmm Roz, it must have worked itself out!

I see The Song of Achilles and Wintertide in the Left Over Stew challenge.

Welcome Purple!.

Looks as though you had no problem getting set up. Good luck with your project.

Here's a link to Shelving Unit

You could also use the link of your name in message #1 in order to view your plans.

Yes, those are the books in your LOS. My LOS isn't showing my book properly. I should have 1 book there, The Winter People.

I see that now. DUH!☻

The three books that are showing there are on a shelf called where-s-your-card. Did you intend that instead of where-s-my-card?

In any case, the left-over-stew" challenge is squirrely!

Have you tried "updating" your left-over-stew" challenge by re-entering that shelf name?

message 11: by Darkpool (last edited Jan 20, 2016 02:24AM) (new)

Darkpool | 55 comments I'm in again this year. These challenges are one of my favourite things on Goodreads, and I thank you yet again for setting them up for us every year Almeta
I'll gradually add my challenges for this year to this post over the next few days as I work out what I'm doing!

1. Hear Ye 20 books

2. Authorization (new-to-me authors) 15 books

3. Chain Link Fence. 12 books. I've even linked the first one this year back to the last one from last year, so feeling particularly clever.

4. Where's Your Card? 40 books.

5. Serialeyes 25 books. I did 20 this year, but one of my stated goals for this year is to stop my stupid habit of reading series one book per year (unless forced to do so because the author can't write them fast enough for me). I recently read the second book in a series 18 months after the first, and felt cross that I couldn't remember all the characters well enough. Well, duh! So I have a few half eaten series in mind to finish, as well as the ones where I'm sitting hopefully on the library doorstep waiting for the next one to come out.

6. GR Authorization. 25 books.

7. Shelving Unit 15 books. Which is the goal I filed last year. Sigh.

8. Left Over Stew 6 books. May have to boost this later in the year - I've already both my completed books this year are in this category.

9. Reality Check. 8 books - upping this a bit since I have started reading craft books a bit more (has 3 out of the library right now. Damn you chain maille!!!)

10.

What a nice compliment. Thank you.

message 13: by Roz (new)

Roz | 39 comments I fixed my problem. I had to rename the shelf, back out the 3 books in "my books" and reshelf them. All is now right with the world.

message 14: by Elizabeth S (last edited Dec 26, 2016 02:55PM) (new)

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 105 comments Okay, here is the plan for 2016:

Goals based on book length:
Doorstops (over 500 pages) = 15 books --- FINISHED in December

Shelving Unit (100-500 pages) = 200 books --- FINISHED in August

Short Cut (less than 100 pages) = 600 books --- FINISHED in November
(upped in May from 400 to 600...most of these are picture books, btw)

Other goals:
And the Award Goes To = 25 books --- FINISHED in October
using this one for books in contention for the Sibert in recent years

Double Dog Dare = 13 books --- FINISHED in July
using this one for the 2016 bluestem books that I haven't read yet

Pulitzer Challenge = 8 books --- FINISHED in November
(I hope no one minds that I'm linking to a challenge in another group)

Back in the Saddle = 30 books --- FINISHED in September
thanks, Almeta, for setting this one up because I wanted credit for rereads!

Help Yourself = 12 books --- FINISHED in November
this is the year to read some of these, especially since I really need the help!

Hot Off the Press = 125 books --- FINISHED in October
books published in 2016

Left Over Stew = 100 books --- FINISHED in December
a growing collection of books that I decided I need to just get around to finally reading

Now That Was Classic = 20 books --- FINISHED in December
gotta read some classics this year

message 18: by Elle (last edited Jan 15, 2016 09:13AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) I took a year off last year after I realised I was doing no-one good by attempting to read so much while doing an academic degree with an insane amount of reading attached to it. Now I'm moved onto a post-grad practical degree there is much less reading so I have some time this year. My goals aren't all that impressive though.

Serial Eyes - 5

Another Chance - 5

Home Alone - 20

Double Dog Dare - 12 (one a month hopefully)

Edingus - 30

Boxalls 1001 - 5

Doorstops - 3

Movie or Book? - 5

I'm hoping quite a few of these will overlap. The biggest challenges will no doubt be the doorstops (over 500 pages) and the classics from the 1001 list.

I think that among school work and other life obligations, your goals are quite impressive.

Shelving Unit 23 books . I've had these books on my to-read list for ages, and it's time to get them off.
Rosetta Stone 3 books . One of these books is Les Trois Mousquetaires, which is going to take me a very long time. Other books are in Romanian or French, again.
