Ray Howard fled when he saw Maggie and Nick at the airport. If he didn't murder those boys, why did he run?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I am left wondering the same thing about him and the deputy sheriff. Who was it who knew who the real murderer was, and why did he keep quiet?

My questions exactly!

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I was wondering the same thing.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments One of my truly horrifying moments was when we knew what was in that huge duffel bag. Why did it travel to the airport in the first place?

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments That is the age old question when someone runs. He obviously knew something. Charlene, things at airports were a lot different back then. Do you think maybe Howard was threatened? Or possibly finally felt accepted and didn't want to lose that?

I really can't answer this one. It's a puzzle to me.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments You're right about airports not so long ago, Melissa. I remember when we could go right to the arrival gate to meet someone coming home from a flight. Having said this, I still can't imagine how Ray wouldn't question why something had gone as part of baggage, and then would be asked to take it back home.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments I see what you are saying, Charlene. It would have made me question why he brought it in the first place.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Exactly!

Mary Beth | 193 comments I have no idea, Im confused on this one. I just didnt like it the killer escaped and was able to run away which made the book weak. Never had I read a book where the killer got away and never caught.
