TRUE EVENT: One of the strangest structures in the United States is the home of the late Sarah Winchester. The widow of gun magnate William Winchester, Sarah believed the ghosts created by her husband's Winchester rifles would come for vengeance. To protect her, she built a mansion in Northern California that was endlessly under construction for 36 years. It is said she believed that keeping it always in flux would ward off spirits who'd do her harm. But the construction is nonsensical at best. There are windows that look into other portions of the home rather than outside. There are doors and stairwells that lead nowhere. All told an estimated $75 million dollars by today's rates was spent on the house, which has been a tourist attraction since 1923, five months after she died of a heart failure at 83.
HORROR STORY: haunted Winchester house that a group of teenagers dare to spend the night in

King mashed this up with Jackson´s ¨Haunting of Hill House¨, didn´t he? For ¨Rose Red¨?

Do they still do that? I actually did used to drink Red Rose, but when times got hard (financially) I went over to the 500 tagless bags in the big bag for $1.00 deal at Walmart. Been drinking that stuff ever since. Drinking some right now, actually.

Oh, and I have two little ceramic kitty-cat collectibles right in front of me at this desk from Red Rose. I had a whole set of these little animals. I gave most of them to a lady friend years ago, but kept the kitties.

I bought a second box in a bid for the kitty on the pumpkin! :D Saw it at a friend's house-she collects-and wanted one.

The two I have are from the "Pet Shop" series; the cat and the kittens.

Heh! Don't worry. We won't blame you entirely for derailing this thread. Linda and I have some hand in it. ;)

Kenneth McKinley | 340 comments How about all of the cruel "treatments" conducted in sanitariums around the early 20th century? Shock treatments, lobotomies, etc.

Also, the "medical experiments" that took place in the Nazi concentration camps.

I heard about the one Nazi experiment where they would inject blue dye in the prisoner's eyes to see if they would turn blue.

Such stories would be very hard to read!

Kathy (littlemissred3) | 804 comments I saw a few movies about sanitariums that were shut down due to bad treatment of it's "guests".
