Disclosure - I'm not sure I can give an objective review of this book. Brenda Cooper is such a wonderful human being that I am almost certainly predisposed to like her work.

That said, I really love Brenda Cooper's work. At the very worst her writing is competent and it is often brilliant. She has a lot of very interesting ideas about the future and the nature of humanity that have played out as themes in many of her books. Edge of Dark is a follow up of sorts to the Ruby’s Song books (which I also read and thoroughly enjoyed) and while it might be able to stand alone, I think you would get much more out of it having read those books first. This should be high on the “to read” list of anyone interested in transhumanism.
