As much as I hated King Joffrey's character that actor was amazing.

That kid (I don't even know his name) did such a great job at making you hate him. Same with Cersei.

message 3: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 562 comments Most definitely! That actor was able to pull of Joffrey so well. I think most of the casting is pretty spot on.

That Joffrey kid (I really should look up his name but nah) likely got treated like crap when out in public. Fans can be really awful.

I mean if I ever run into the actors who play Jaime Lannister or Jon
Snow security may need to get called in to pull me off. A night in jail and a restraining order would be worth it. Lol

Do you guys think Jon is dead or alive?

message 6: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 562 comments Oh gosh... that's a hard one. I want to hope he's alive and there's a lot of sightings that could support that, but everyone was so adamant that he wasn't so idk!

message 7: by Chappy (new)

Chappy | 8 comments Definitely alive, in the book Mellisandre is not at the wall and thus could not bring Jon back. But the powers of the red god have brought men and women back to life before and i believe thats what will happen with Jon.
not only this but now that he is dead, he is relieved of his vow to the nights watch and can now take vengeance.

message 8: by Ritika (new)

Ritika (rittika) | 12 comments The way a major character like Jon was killed was too simple for GRRM. Important people like Robert, Ned, Robb, Catelyn, Joff - they all go out with pomp and show. Even Lysa Arryn's death scene had more to it than Jon's. Plus its time GRRM brought back a major character to life. I vote for Jon Is Alive!

I have not yet read all the books but who would suggest to start with that? Thoughts?

I am not watching the tv show but I saw this online. I don't ever watch stuff I read because I feel they should follow the book. I just don't like when things are out of order. I may binge watch it when I am done reading.

I heard about that spreadsheet from your link and could never find it. Thanks. It seems after season 2 they show and book separate in a big way.

I think after I read book 2 then I will re-watch season 2 then put a hault on the re-watching till the last book is done. All weekend I re-watched season 1 and I loved watching after having just finished reading book #1.

It is interesting to look at. I am very curious how they will handle not having the next book in time. I don't see George giving them anything in advance of the book release.

message 16: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 562 comments George already told producers basically the whole story. He did that because he wanted them to have the story in case he died. So they know his endgame, but their paths to it may be different-butterfly effect and all.

He's even said because of the butterfly effect the books will still be different. I am curious to know how much he deviates from what he told them just to be able to sell books. Keep in mind too that there are characters in the books not in the shows. I think there will be plenty material to warrant reading the book after the show.

I love the show and have been reading most of his updates about the next novel. It doesn't help that he lives about an hour north of me so he's always in the news.
I have no idea when the next should be out. He did have deadlines, but kept missing them so he decided to write without deadlines and let the show pass him. Deadlines apparently give him a writing block. lol I hope this year. That would definitely be ideal.

I have the DVD set of season one and I watched some of the bonus content. It is great stuff.

I almost feel bad for not liking Cersei because the actress seems like such a nice woman. I guess that just means one thing - great acting!

The actor who Plays Tyrion surprised me when he spoke without an accent!

You really don't need to be anywhere at any certain time. It is totally read at your own pace within the 2 month period. However I had set myself up a schedule (and shared as requested) of what I was planning to read each week in order to not get too far behind and finish way on time.

week 1 (beginning March 1) I was going to start with:
0 ~ Prologue
1 ~ Arya I
2 ~ Sansa I
3 ~ Tyrion I
4 ~ Bran I
5 ~ Arya II
6 ~ Jon I
7 ~ Catelyn I

week 2 (beginning March 8) I was going to start with:
8 ~ Tyrion II
9 ~ Arya III
10 ~ Davos I
11 ~ Theon I
12 ~ Daenerys I
13 ~ Jon II
14 ~ Arya IV
15 ~ Tyrion III

week 3 (beginning March 15th) I was going to begin with:
16 ~ Bran II
17 ~ Tyrion IV
18 ~ Sansa II
19 ~ Arya V
20 ~ Tyrion V
21 ~ Bran III
22 ~ Catelyn II

So if you are wanting to stick to that "schedule", then March 14th you should be just finishing ch 15.

I am way ahead of what I had planned to do because I could not wait to start and said screw it and started when I felt like it. lol

Brianna (bebecburt) | 562 comments My husband will make me watch season 6 with him. Or spoil it if I don't. I think it'll be fine to watch since they will be going down a different path than Martin will in the books. There's so much more to the books, it may help with understanding what's going on by having a bit of a preview so to speak.

LENA TRAK | 221 comments Hello everyone! I'm currently reading the second book of GOT. I've got about a 100 pages left... I was a fan of the TV series and I decided reading the books may be a good idea. Of course now I am totally addicted. I usually hate films and series once I have read the books. So I should say this is the second time (the first was with Lord of the rings) that I have read the books and watched the TV versions and I really don't know which one I like more. It's amazing actually. When I read the books I forget what happens in the series so I relive the story all over again. Then I watch the reruns with this amazing soundtrack and the beautiful scenery and they are completely different from what I picture in my head when I read! Does anyone else feel the same???

By the way I found this...Probably most of you have seen it.

I read books 1, 2,3 and part of 4 and watched the tv series up to season 5. I think this one case where the tv series is as good as the books.
This group has encouraged me to go back to reading the books. It is so much better to have people to discuss with as you go along, with big involved books like these.
