How did you find our group?

I was just doing a search for history groups. And came across this one.
I won't flat out not read something with language, gore, sex ... But I do avoid books that glamorize it. Or say more than they need to. I love history. Unfortunately, history isn't always clean. Horrible things have happened. I don't think history needs to be sanitized ... But there is certainly a respectful way of writing about some topics. Language doesn't bother me at all ... It's just words. I do however hate books with sex and unnecessary gory details. I do enjoy historical non-fiction and ... Ugh! Those can be the worst sometimes! Trying to find one that isn't absurd and still well written with a good story can be a challenge. I hope to find some recommendations.
I do read a lot. I know in my mind whether they meet the standards I hold myself too, but not as strict as this groups. (I can think of some amazing books, but I wouldn't be able able to say without a doubt it conforms. There may be a few more words than I remember etc.) I will keep in mind with current and future reads and hope I can give some recommendations to you.
Thanks :)
Hi Lyndsey, WELCOME to the group. That is really interesting that you found this group while looking for history groups, lol! I would not have expected that, but I am glad that you discovered us. :D
I don't know if you also like historical fiction, or prefer nonfiction, but there is some of both here[U.S. and U.K.]. You can find more on my profile bookshelf, [by clicking on my avatar to get to my profile], as somehow quite a few books were deleted from the bookshelf here in the group's homepage.
I totally agree with you about some stronger elements being in history books, and I have read quite a few, but I mostly read fiction books for entertainment, so those I prefer to be lighter reads. I noticed while looking for books with my criteria, in the different genre groups here, that there were many others like me who also preferred 'clean reads, so I created this group, to become a source for titles.
I hope that you find some to interest you, and don't forget to check my profile bookshelf.
Group Creator and Mod,
Chris

Glad I found this group.

Hi Autumn, Welcome to the group, and thank you so much for responding to the question. I love learning how people find the groups they join on Goodreads.
Through other's profiles, is also how I have found several groups! :D
I hope you find many great titles to read here, and hope you will join in our discussion threads or even add your own.

As a teenager I started out reading Victoria Holt and Mary Stewart as those are very clean. When I was in college I would read anything but now have reverted back again.
Welcome Carol, I hope you also find some good reads through our group. Be sure to check my bookshelves on my profile page, as well, as somehow quite a few books were deleted off the group's bookshelf!

I'm new to Goodreads, so I need to get oriented here. I have never done social media, but Goodreads seems like a good place for me.
Thank you for responding Maggie and Glenn, and WELCOME to the group! :D
Glenn, as an author, please be sure to read the rules about author 'self-promotion', as there are requirements to be met, before it is permitted in this group.

Thank you for responding. Yes, I have read the rules about author "self promotion," and they seem most reasonable.
Glenn

Yes, I look forward to posting. I am shy and private by nature, and I will need to break the ice, as they say, with social media. This group seems like a good place for me to put my toe in the water, which, I am sure, is not as cold as I might imagine!
Thank you again for starting this group,
Glenn = G
You are most welcome, Glenn. :D
I hope that you find several good titles on our bookshelf here, and for many more.... be sure to check my personal bookshelves on my profile page, by clicking on my avatar.

Ah, I would never have thought to click on your avatar! I only know what an avatar is because my wife explained it to me.
Ah, yes, I must look again at the bookshelves. I only know about these because a friend explained this feature to me.
I would love to discuss the short novel Shane on Goodreads. I have loved Shane for decades, have read the scholarship available, and taught it in 1988.
What do you suggest? Can I start a thread, or is that not OK for a newbie like me. Is a thread on a single novel too narrow?
Suggestions are most welcome. I want to participate, but I don't want to do anything impolite on this group. In fact, I don't even know how to start a thread, if you think that is OK!
G = Glenn
Sure Glenn, everyone is most welcome to start their own threads, here. Just think which folder it would fit best in, then on the main page click "New" above the discussion threads. Give your thread a subject title , click which folder it should go in, write your thread then post it. You are able to "edit" it if you need to.
BTW, just a suggestion, before choosing to join a group here at Goodreads, I always check the discussion threads to see if they interest me, and I also check the group's bookshelf to see if they have a number of interesting titles for me to check into.
I am definitely a review reading addict to the point that I also check the bookshelves of those whos reviews I enjoy, and I also click on "compare books" on their profile page to see how similar our tastes are, and check their bookshelves, as well.
The Listopia Lists here are also fabulous sources to find titles by genre. I have so many saved in my Listopia folder in my favorites, that it's ridiculous, but perused often, lol!

Christine, thank you so much for sharing how you found our group. That is really interesting...and weird... how it showed up in a search for "Historical Fantasy".I have never heard of that particular genre, but it sounds really interesting. Could you share the titles of some that you have enjoyed, and if any who read this post know of more, could you please post them here?

Historical fantasy is historical fiction with a bit of magic thrown in, rather than hardcore, sword and sorcery fantasy. I haven't read any titles, actually, other than my own! When I was writing my new series, I had a really hard time finding the genre "box" in which to put it, and struggled with that until I discovered historical fantasy, which I also had never heard of before. This genre encompasses stuff like Celtic myths and Arthurian legends, so it seemed to fit what I was writing - and I actually would like to explore more titles of this type, which was why I was looking for a group about it. Thanks for the Amazon link, C - I am going to spend some time looking over those books when I get a chance. As to which of them are clean, I can't say, of course, because I haven't read any!
Yeah the "Celtic myths and Arthurian legends "with a bit of magic, is why I think it sounds so appealing, lol! :D

Welcome, Laura! I agree - I too am a Christian but I got very tired of reading cookie-cutter plots with forced messages. I got a lot of pressure as a younger author to write Christianity into everything I wrote. It just felt very tired, jaded, and fake. I've never enjoyed writing anything so much as the stuff I'm working on now! Nothing wrong with clean and entertaining. There are some great suggestions for reads in this group. I wish I had time for all of them...
Welcome Laura and Christine. I am so glad that you found our group. How did you find us?
I hope you find many wonderful titles here, and hope that you enjoy interacting with the members here. :D
