Fishface | 18801 comments Just so you don't buy the same book twice by mistake! Feel free to list any you become aware of -- publishers are constantly trying to up sales by pasting a new title on an old book.

For starters: Murder on the Home Front: A True Story of Morgues, Murderers, and Mysteries During the London Blitz and Evidence for the Crown Experiences of A are the same book, by Molly Lefebure.

Natural Born Killer: In Love and on the Road with a Serial Killer, In Love with a Serial Killer, and Killing Time by Sandy Fawkes are all the exact same book.

Cold-Blooded: The Saga of Charles Schmid, the Notorious "Pied Piper of Tucson" and THE TUCSON MURDERS by John Gilmore are the same book.

The Coed Killer and Why: The Serial Killer In America by Margaret Cheney are the same book.

House of Evil and The Indiana Torture Slaying: Sylvia Likens' Ordeal And Deathare essentially the same book, but the linked first title is considerably expanded from the original edition, under the second title I listed.

Olsen's Mockingbird: A Mother, a Child, a Tragedy and Cruel Deception are the same book.

The Rapist's Wife and Evil Beside Her are the same book.

I've Been Watching You: The South Louisiana Serial Killer and Blood Bath are the same book.

The Torso Killer and The Prostitute Murders are the same book.

The Life and Crimes of Charles Sobhraj by Robert Neville and Julie Clark can also be found under the title BAD BLOOD.

William Van Meter's Bluegrass : A True Story of Murder in Small-Town Kentucky was almost immediately re-released under the title Cruel Heart: The True Story of a Beautiful Co-ed, a Vicious Murder, and the Trial that Tore Apart a Town.

Legacy of Courage and Catch My Mother's Killer are the same book.

Too Beautiful a Day to Die and Day of Fury: The Story of the Tragic Shootings That Forever Changed the Village of Winnetka are the same book.

Deadly Devotion and Where Hope Begins: One Family's Journey Out of Tragedy-And the Reporter Who Helped Them Make It are the same book.

There But for the Grace of God: Survivors of the 20th Century's Infamous Serial Killers is also available under the title DEAD LUCKY.

The Darkest Night: The Murder of Innocence in a Small Town is also available under the title Fall: The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small Town.

The book about Sir Bernard Spilsbury by Browne & Tullett is available under at least 5 different titles, having been in print for almost a century, so shop with care.

Two of a Kind: The Hillside Strangler and The Hillside Stranglers by Darcy O'Brien are the same book.

Torso The Evelyn Dick Case and Bloody Matrimony are the same book.

Fishface | 18801 comments The Lost Girl and The One That Got Away: My Life Living With Fred and Rose West are the same book.

Blind Rage and To Die For are the same freaking book. See how common these are???

EDIT: This one has just been re-issued AGAIN under the title MR Perfect. Gary C. King.

I don't even know why they bothered to do this: don't buy Wensley Clarkson's Railroad Killer if you already have his The Railway Killer. I know, that's what I said, too...

Fishface | 18801 comments Maxim Jakubowski's The Mammoth Book of Jack the Ripper Stories: 40 dark new tales by Martin Edwards, Michael Gregorio, Alex Howard, Barbara Nadel, Steve Rasnic Tem and many more is the same exact thing as Maxim Jakubowski's JACK THE RIPPER.

Fruit of the Poisonous Tree and Murder in the Thumb. Same book, two titles.

The Sweater Letter and Hunt To Kill look different but have identical contents.

Fishface | 18801 comments The Manson Women A "Family" Portrait and MANSON MADE ME DO IT are the same book by Clara Livsey.

William Zamora may appear to have written 3 books on the Manson trial, but Blood Family, Trial By Your Peers and THE HELTER SKELTER TRIAL OF MANSON AND HIS BLOOD FAMILY are the same thing from soup to nuts.

The Jeffrey Dahmer Story: An American Nightmare and The Milwaukee Murders: Nightmare in Apartment 213: The True Story are the same.

Now this one will screw with your head. Beyond All Reason: My Life With Susan Smith by David Smith, and BEYOND ALL REASON by David JAMES Smith, are NOT the same book. But The Sleep of Reason: James Bulger Case and BEYOND ALL REASON by David JAMES Smith are in fact the same thing.

The Catch-Me Killer and Matter of Judgment? You guessed it.

Bad Boy: The True Story of Kenneth Allen McDuff, the Most Notorious Serial Killer in Texas History and Bad Boy from Rosebud are the same.

Death in a Fish Pond: A Perfect Husband, a Perfect Marriage, a Perfect Murder? and In Her Own Backyard: A Perfect Husband, A Perfect Marriage, A Perfect Murder are the same.

That's a relief. Otherwise, it would indicate that people are going around killing girl scouts.

I don't think I read Fruit Of The Poisonous Tree so I googled and there is one by Richard Carson. Is that the one posted here Fishface? I would like to get this book.

Yup, I ordered Poison Tree: A True Story of Family Terror by Alan Prendergast Fishface so I am happy I got the one you recommended.

Rita (crimesleuthjunkie) | 1146 comments Is there another book about the true story of the Rich and Famous American Family of Brooks and Barbara Baekeland and their handsome gentle son by Natalie Robins and Steven M.L. Aronson? Plus Samantha Winberg's Pointing From The Grave about British DNA scientist Helena Greenwood?

Rita (crimesleuthjunkie) | 1146 comments Fishface, this true crime story is fascinating and I hate to pass it up but I know myself and how I like it set-up and I don't think I will be drawn in by it. But I want to read about this family perhaps if there is a possibility of another book out there.

Also I have the book Pointing from The Grave and that too looks fascinating. I am wondering if anyone here has read it. I would like to know their thoughts

Rita, this thread is for listing books that have more than one title. If you have a question about books regarding a certain crime, please post in the chit-chat or book recommendation thread.

Please try to keep thread on topic!

Fishface | 18801 comments Signature Killers and Serial Violence: Analysis of Modus Operandi and Signature Characteristics of Killers by Bob Keppel and William Birnes appear to be essentially the same book. The latter is considerably updated and revised, with a photo section and a whole chapter added on Saucy Jack.

Shelley | 1225 comments There should be a law against changing the names of books. :) And while we are at it, a law against authors of series that don't have clear numbering of the books or the numbering changes mid-series!

You are so right Shelley. I don't know how many times over decades that I have gotten the same true crime story but just with a different title. I am glad we have this discussion here to check before ordering a book.

And they need to stop giving a new International Standard Book Number to every new edition. It confuses things beyond belief. Keep the same number for all of them, but add an H for the hardcover edition, TP for trade paperback, C for a special collector's edition, and P for mass-market paperbacks. Add another T if the book is translated from another language. Is this really so hard to figure out!?

message 40: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18801 comments And add an A for an Abridged version. If not simply outlaw them.

message 41: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18801 comments Becky: The Heartbreaking Story of Becky Watts by Her Father Darren Galsworthy and THE EVIL WITHIN by the same author are, in fact, the same book. One is a revised and updated edition.

Fishface | 18801 comments I found something like 4 different titles by Christian K. Ross about the kidnapping of his son, Charley. They all appear to be exactly the same book.

The Father's Story of Charley Ross, the Kidnapped Child: Containing a Full and Complete Account of the Abduction of Charles Brewster Ross from the Home of His Parents and Charley Ross, the Story of His Abduction, by His Father are 2 examples that I'm going to ask to have combined.

There is another book on this case by a different author: Michigan Murders.

I believe the first edition of Terror In Ypsilanti was written in 2016. I don't see anything to suggest there is a prior version.

I read it and gave it 4.5 Stars! I think you will enjoy it, Rita!

Keep in mind there could be two books about the same murders. Logically they would be similar. However this is not the correct place for that particular discussion.
