Does anyone have any ideas for this group? Such as: how we read and discuss books, topics, other things you would like to see, etc. I would love to know if you do, anything at all! I'm really open to suggestions!

Also, I've been thinking about deleting past "book discussions". Do you like having them to go back and reference or do you prefer a more simplistic home page that doesn't have as much and as many old discussions?

Looking forward to really growing this group this year! We also REALLY need discussion leaders!! Does anyone want to sign up? You can choose to lead a book of your choice or the book we vote on!

Megan (megsterftw) | 23 comments I think I've seen this on other groups but I'm not sure how you do it - is there a way to archive past book discussions? Then they're not in active topics anymore but people can still see them if they want

I am going to look into that! It would keep the homepage for this group a lot cleaner...!

Ariel (lamot_amant) It would be great to archive past discussions as future members might like to check them out when they get to/finish a book. I've noticed that a couple of the groups I'm in have switched up how they do BOM discussions. Instead of doing one thread where everyone has to tag spoilers which can really hamper the conversation, they break it down into a couple different threads by grouping together chapters or parts. That way everyone knows exactly what will be in the thread so they can avoid spoilers if they want while everyone commenting feels free to discuss whatever comes to mind.

Also, I've found that having a thread where I can record what all I'm doing in a group helps me be more active in that group. One of my favorite groups calls it a Member Corner and it's an easy way to keep up with any challenges, BOM discussions, etc. you're involved in throughout the year. Some groups archive them one year to the next and some just let you do with them what you will, whether you want to start fresh each year or keep recording your progress.

Sorry if I'm rambling here... last idea:

I recently joined a group that has a Group Challenge setup that might be really beneficial to this group. I'm not sure how they set it up but it's the first thing you see when you scroll down to their threads and it's called a Catch Up Challenge. You pick books the group has read previously from their bookshelf (they've been around awhile so the list is extensive), select how many you would like to read this year & add them to a bookshelf on your profile. Then, as you read the books, it tracks how many you've read to your goal similar to how the GR yearly reading challenge works. It also allows you to update your challenge if you want to add more to your goal.

I've probably made it sound overly complicated but it would be pretty cool if we had something similar. We could have a library of the show's books, those the group has read as well as the rest. Members can pick how many they would like to read for the year/which ones they'd like to read and it would be an annual/ongoing challenge.

It might be a draw for new members - having a concrete yearly challenge for the group as well as an easy way to access the list of books/make plans to read however many.

Marion I like being able to look.at past.book discussions so hopefully archiving threads isn't a lot of work.

I also think that archiving old discussions would be great. Although until a few days ago - maybe a week? - all the old discussions were still on here. They seem to have been deleted.

As to splitting books up in 4 parts, I have seen that in other groups too. I think it's a great way to make sure to avoid spoilers but also allow for free discussions. I don't think it makes sense for this group though, at least for now. The past discussions were all really small, with sometimes one or two persons posting, if at all, so having several threads for one book is a bit over the top I think. But maybe if the group gets more active we could try it. :)

I really like all of Ariels suggestions. Hopefully we can implement some more of them. I know its a lot of work. Thank you ,Laura for all you do!!

Jane Hello everyone! I don't know if this thread is still active but I was looking for somewhere to put suggestions so, sorry if I missed it!
I would have two suggestions for the group:
1. Create a new category like "Reading corners" where everybody can create their own thread and keep track of how many books from the list they read. Everyone can only have one thread each. I think it would help for motivation.
2. Create a summer reading challenge (this is not a new idea I would just love to do it again). With obstacles, maybe more related to the show like: a book that Lorelai read, a book that Rory read in school, a book that Rory had in her backpack, etc. I think that could be a fun group activity, coming up with suitable books for these prompts. Or do you think that would be too complicated?

We have done summer (seasonal) challenges previously. I believe that a member just started them up.
I would love the reading corner thing and the old discussions never did get archived. Maybe its too complicated or difficult? I dont know how it is done.

I can do a summer reading challenge again. I'll check into archiving old discussions, I know we use them for re-reads so we don't double back but I think this might be too confusing. I can also create a "List" thread for people to keep track. That's easy enough to do.
