Paul I thought the same about Henry . Hes a cheeky little so and so but he really nows his stuff. I remember being quite curious about the underground rivers after reading the book as well.

Paul Its certainly the first thing that jumped out at me

Margo I've ordered this from the library. I was in two minds about reading it as, with the exeption of the barrytown trilogy, I'm not a big fan of Roddy Doyle. But what the hell - with the season that's in it n'all! Plus I can't get hold of a user friendly version of my book club ;P

Vikki Coleman | 4 comments I love the last roundup trilogy - with the centenary this year it's great that people may think or reading this- I love Henry's antics !

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I found my copy and may take it with me on my trip. I have other books I have to read before starting this but I am looking forward to a 1916-themed book.

Margo The library copy of this is "not available" so I'll give it miss

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments Finally started this and am really loving the writing 50 pages in.

Cathleen | 2409 comments This may sound like a out-from-left-field remark but as serious as this novel is, it reminds me a bit of Forrest Gump, in terms of how many luminaries Henry knows, meets, interacts with, just by chance. He's an Everyman who isn't.

I think I interpreted this as Dublin is a small town/village. On the other hand, both James Connolly and Michael Collins had total confidence in him which is a bit hard to believe of a kid.
