I loved TLOTR, the Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black, and The Dreamhouse Kings series by Robert Liparulo.

What are some others?

Fablehaven and Just Ella are on my TBR list.

Desiree Taggard | 51 comments Those two are really good. Fablehaven is 5 books and I think the Just ella series is 3 books. Really I read a lot of Fantasy because I love being taken away into a new adventure!

The1selectioner | 38 comments I found the Spiderwick Chronicles to be enjoyable one reads. However, I didn't care for The Hobbit. I thought it was boring and confusing. As for Harry Potter, I love the movies but think the books suck.

I thought it was such fun to read the golem's parts in The Hobbit and TLOTR books!

I have only read the first two books in the HP series, but I enjoyed them. Own and love the DVDs, just haven't gotten around to reading the rest of the books, probably because I watch the films so much, haha.

Just finished the first book in a trilogy Edgewood by Karen McQuestion and loved it!~ Edgewood (Edgewood, #1) by Karen McQuestion

It isn't as violent as Divergent which bothered me, and why I will never read The Hunger Games[adults forcing kids to fight-to-the-death-No Way!].

Weston I would recommend The Bartimaeus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud.

Kristi Cramer (kristicramer) | 109 comments They're older, but Anne McCaffrey and her Pern novels are probably my all time favorites. Particularly the Harper Hall Trilogy.

There's a ton of them. I haven't read the collaborated ones (too chicken to find out if they're any good) but these are my favorites (best read in this order):

Dragonflight
Dragonquest
The White Dragon
Dragonsong
Dragonsinger
Dragondrums

Then there are a bunch in between these, which are all good reads, but my next favorites are:
The Masterharper of Pern
and
All the Weyrs of Pern

She gets a little softer (not so many awful things happen) on her characters in later years, but just about every one of them has wrung tears out of me - and they still can.

Very clean reads. Doors close on any sex scenes, the violence is emotional, not graphic, and they have their own curse words, like "shells" and "shards" and "by the egg" - although some of the prequels might have a bit stronger language, I don't think there are any f-bombs.
