Hopefully this gives us the choices in other areas.

Oceania, the continent. I don't know the adjective about this continent.

Sorry Betty when I did it came up with Oceania Cruises? Which is why I asked.
Other than Australia would those other Countries actually qualify with 50 years or older Novels? If so I would be interested in a list as well.

Hi, Lesle & Rafael -- Did some hunting into classic Oceania and found several authors from New Zealand, Australia, and Samoa Some may qualify as "classic."
Oodgeroo Noonuccal, poetry and books 1960's-1990's (Australia)
Hone Tuwhare, poet 1960's-2008 (New Zealand)
Arapera Hineirakaa Blank, poet 1950's-1990's (New Zealand)
Patricia Grace, fiction 1970's (New Zealand)
Sir Tom Davis, novel "Makutu" 1960 (Cook Islands)
Albert Wendt, fiction 1970's-present (Samoa)
There are may more recent authors as well.

Jack London wrote The Cruise of the Snark and South Sea Tales
Charmian London wrote The Log of the Snark
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote South Sea Tales, The Beach of Falesá, The Wrecker, and A Footnote to History: Eight Years of Trouble in Samoa
Herman Melville wrote Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life
I consider a national classic a book that was written in that specific country, even if the author are writing in another country. Beckett wrote some works in french, in the France, so those books are french books not irish ones.
What define a classic (in our classification) it's the place not the plot. Thank you, Elizabeth for the suggestions, I guess that they fit more in the thread for suggestions.

Not sure if this will help...sorry so late
The Brothers Grimm defined legend as folktale historically grounded.
A modern folklorist's professional definition of legend was proposed by Timothy R. Tangherlini in 1990:
Legend, typically, is a short (mono-) episodic, traditional, highly ecotypified historicized narrative performed in a conversational mode, reflecting on a psychological level a symbolic representation of folk belief and collective experiences and serving as a reaffirmation of commonly held values of the group to whose tradition it belongs.

I'm so overwhelmed by how much work and time creating this system must have taken. Thank you, Rafael and anyone else who assisted him!
This makes me seem I need to dust and organize my shelves, when all I really want to do is read! 🤭
Trust me it is all Rafael!
He is our awesome behind the scene organizer!
His handy work shows up on the Group Home Page every month with the 'CURRENTLY READING and Upcoming' plus our Groups Bookshelf. Since we try to challenge ourselves with reading Classics from all over this makes it very handy for us. A wonderful resource he provides for us!
Not sure how we would get along without him!
So grateful :)
