Ayunda (ayundabs) Hi everyone! It's that time again to nominate the books you want as our March group read! For this month I feel like because the main goal of this group was to explore new genres, I think that we should make a requirement for this month. So for March, please nominate books that are from a different genre than the book we have read before.

You can check out our previous group reads here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

So far the genres we've tackled are mostly romance and really popular. I hope that for March you can nominate a book that's preferably different as in, not young adult, not romance/contemporary, and has less than 10,000 ratings on Goodreads.

Some genres you can choose from:
Memoir
Fantasy
Middle Grade
Crime/Mystery
Horror/Thriller
Travel
Poetry/Short story collections
Magical realism
Humor/Comedy
Literary fiction

Looking forward to seeing your nominations! This group will close on February 16th and the next day a poll will be made so we can determine the group read by the middle of the month as usual :D

I nominate Pantomime by Laura Lam. But if you really really don't want us to nominate ya for March, I nominate Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes.

Sara | 91 comments I nominate Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. The movie adaptation is a favorite of mine, and I've always wanted to read the book.

Julia | 53 comments Can we nominate plays?

Julia | 53 comments Also can you possibly give an example of like memoirs we can nominate?

message 6: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) I love the movie Fight Club, Sara! Have always wanted to read the book :D
Of course plays are welcome for nominations, Julia!
For memoirs, there are lots of them, go look at some popular ones here: https://www.goodreads.com/genres/memoir
I have Felicia Day's You're Never Weird on the Internet and Rob Lowe's Stories I Only Tell My Friends if you're thinking of nominating them as well :)

Ayunda (ayundabs) I would like to nominate a short story collection, St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves by Karen Russell. It's a mix of fantasy and magical realism, and I think it'll be fun if we discuss each short story in detail.

Julia | 53 comments Ok this probably seems like a silly question but is there a difference between an autobiography and a memoir?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Julia - based on my 5 minute research, the terms can be used interchangeably but autobiographies are more formal, span the author's whole life & more about accomplishments. Memoirs, on the other hand, are less formal. more personal and typically about just one part/event/choice made by the author (a short timeline).

Julia | 53 comments Ohhhh ok! Thank you for clearing that up!

message 11: by Julia (new)

Julia | 53 comments If it's considered a memoir, I want to nominate Rosewater by Maziar Bahari, originally published as Then They Came for Me. It's about a journalist who was imprisoned in Iran after the 2009 presidential elections.

If that's not considered a memoir, I want to nominate Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare.

message 12: by Sara (new)

Sara | 91 comments Oh is Rosewater the same book that Jon Stewart made a movie based on?

message 13: by Julia (new)

Julia | 53 comments Yeah! That's actually how I heard about it from Jon Stewart when the author was on talking about the book.

message 14: by Sara (new)

Sara | 91 comments Oh then I hope it gets nominated, I've really been wanting to read it.

message 15: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) Two more days before the nominations thread is closed, so nominate books you wanna read now, guys!!! :D
