Aishah (rogue85) | 10 comments I was wondering how to continue reading books on a tight budget whether to subscribe to monthly subscription (scribd.com) or buy the ebooks separately from different sites while we already have Kindle app in Malaysia but we don't have the offers available. It is just frustrating when every time one of the authors put up offers regarding their books it is not available in Kindle for Malaysia. Any suggestions or which one do you prefer subscribe or individual ebooks?

Azbaqiyah | 96 comments I do face the same problem with you. Normally I bought one book per month. I much prefer paperback rather than ebook. but ebook are quite easier to find you just need to google the title and author. if you are lucky you had a complete collection.

you just need to find a good website. ^^

Neenee | 95 comments For me, I would stop the monthly subscription and look for another options for books. Project Gutenberg offers free ebooks but only the classics. But I found so many gems there.

I don't have a Kindle, so I can't say anything about it. But it sounds quite good to find the more affordable offer from different sites if they are available for Malaysian market.

Yeah Ask it is easier to find ebook, it is so much easier. Paperback i don't prefer much because i have to then think about storage. Plus, i really don't like people judging my collection, i tend to gravitate towards like dark books. Can't be helped there. Thanks for your view, Ask.

Thanks for your reply Neenee, even i don't own Kindle, i just have the Kindle app on my Android. You are right about the subscription though (it costs around USD8.99 per month), i think the same with the amount of money they are charging the newly released books are not even available. Maybe i would make a budget and buy books within the amount, Project Gutenberg is full with a lot of classics but it is just that i have to be in a mood to read them anyways.

Azbaqiyah | 96 comments Your welcome. ^^ I do hate if people judge my collections. Thank goodness that my family is not one of them.

Only my schoolmates are like that.

How do you chat about books on Goodreads? I don't get it. They are so many people saying they like to chat about books but where do you chat about it? Is it at the book review? Maybe I need to make another topic.. I would be happy if you could help..

Deviki | 43 comments I'm curious about .......Kindle ......

Nazrat | 9 comments The main difference between kindle and a smartphone is the display technology. In most smart devices the display is a LED display and Ebook reader such as kobo, nook and kindle is using eInk. EInk is as close as you can get to simulating a paper print and you won't have problems reading outdoors under bright sunlight, unlike the LED displays on smart devices.

I have been using eReaders for the longest time, ever since the Palm days. I still like eInk technology best when comes to reading books as it does not strain your eyes and you can read in all lighting conditions (most of the new eInk devices now comes with night light which enables you to read in the dark!). Of course reading in the dark will strain your eyes but it's less glaring when compared to using a smart device.

Downside of a dedicated Ebook reader such as a kindle? Well, is a BOOK with no physical pages. A Kindle will have goodreads integration. The other features are rudimentary and nothing worth shouting about. The other problem is that you'll have 2 or more devices to lug about, but if you consider a Kindle as a book, books more like, it's not so bad after all!

Anyway, I love my Kindle to death, I have a Nook too but it doesn't have Goodreads integration. So, if you are a avid reader and you can afford a Kindle, get it.

Jian Hou (nevhirion) | 6 comments What Nazrat said. I often find my eyes fatigued after reading for some time on the iPad or my smartphone, but I can read for hours on the Kindle.
The new Voyage has such a high resolution that the text looks almost paper-like. I still remember trying to tear off what I thought was a plastic paper on the screen when I bought it only to realize that those text were printed on screen.
With that said, I still love the tactile feel of paper on my fingers and would buy paperback versions of books I love.
We are blessed that we bookworms are not left behind in the technology race as Kindle could very easily have not survived the Amazon boardroom meeting. I say we take advantage of the best of both worlds and keep the passion for reading alive!

Neenee | 95 comments where did u all find a kindle in malaysia, apart from that online store? even then I heard it was not an authorised one

message 17: by Nazrat (last edited Feb 17, 2016 07:38AM) (new)

Nazrat | 9 comments You can go to the online store's location in Shah Alam to have a touch and feel of the various Kindle models. The owner is very accommodating. The prices no doubt are higher than Amazon's, but if you add the shipping cost it's actually cheaper.

Aishah (rogue85) | 10 comments @Nazrat

Where is the store in Shah Alam?

message 19: by Nazrat (new)

Nazrat | 9 comments Go here to get address and contact. Bought my Kindle Voyager from them.

http://kindlemalaysia.com/store/

message 20: by Dani (new)

Dani (daniareadss) | 5 comments If you look at their website (Kindle Malaysia and Amazon), the Kindle Voyage is way more expensive and if you don't want to spend that much, I say buy the new Kindle Paperwhite 7th gen (with 300 ppi). I have the older one with 6th gen with 212 ppi, which I still love. People buy the Voyage because text looks better with higher resolution. the new paperwhite is still the same-ish price with the older one, but has the same resolution as voyage.

FYI: Bought my kindle paperwhite 6th gen from KindleMalaysia and service is good.

message 21: by Nazrat (new)

Nazrat | 9 comments The 7th gen paperwhite is good enough. I got Voyage cos 7th gen is not out then. Having said that 6th gen is just as good even at 212 ppi (unless you read like 2 inches from the screen :P).

The only difference with 7th gen and Voyage is the light sensor in Voyage that auto adjust to the light condition. 7th gen has nightlight too but you have to manually adjust the light.
