Pip | 814 comments Very often when discussing a novel it is difficult to decide whether or not to include plot points or other information which may spoil the book for someone who hasn't read it yet.
GoodReads has an inbuilt "spoiler" function, which means you can insert text within a comment or book review which can only be seen by other readers if they click on "view spoiler". It's actually easier to use this than to explain it, as you will see!

To use the spoiler function, use the < > symbols with the word "spoiler" between them at the beginning of the hidden text, and < > with the word "/ spoiler" at the end of the hidden text.

So you would write the following but WITHOUT the asterisks.

<*spoiler*>This text will be hidden.<*/spoiler*>

If I hadn't used the asterisks, it would have looked like this: (view spoiler)

Note: some GoodReads apps for mobile devices don't admit the use of hidden spoilers.

Feel free to test it out below, and if you need any more clarification, please ask.
