Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) This is an amazing retelling of "A Thousand and One Nights" and an amazing story by its own right. This can't possible be Renee Ahdieh's first book, because it's TOO GOOD. I loved every page of it. The characters are interesting, the world is well built and the writing, especially the descriptions, is beautiful. Sherzad is now one of my favorite female ya book protagonist. This girl is a badass, without the need to be a fighter - she actually is gifted with a bow and arrow, but she only needed to use this once in the entire book in a fighting sense. Her battles are won with words and her mind. She's smart, resourceful, sarcastic, witty and brave, loyal, caring and overall amazing. A little bit bratty and impulsive, but that only adds to her as a character.

The only fault I could find in the book is the love triangle, which, in my opinion, was rather unnecessary. It's the only reason why it's not a full five stars. I can't wait for the novellas and the second novel!

I used this for the author new to you category, but it can be used as an YA book, debut novel, a fantasy book and a fairytale retelling.
