Welcome to Who Doesn't Love a Classic? group! Please take a moment to introduce yourself. We're happy to have you join us.

Karin Hi, I'm Karin and am migrating from Shelfari. I read a variety of books, including some classics. In fact, I'm on here to write a review of one at some point today (I hope). I have three "teens" (one is nearly 21, but young for her age, so I include her in that) that keep me busy chauffeuring (none get to drive until they can pay for it all themselves; partly so they are more responsible, and partly because our money is going to other things for them).

Hi, I'm Tessa (or BC). I've had a parallel Goodreads shelf since about 2008, and started getting involved in various groups in 2012, so I'm helping the team get this group going.

I'm originally from Texas, but have lived in Wisconsin since I came to college at the age of 17, and fell in love with winter. (I really hate hot weather...)

I'm married - no children, no pets. I work in healthcare administration for a group of pediatric surgeons (General Surgery and Plastic / Reconstructive Craniofacial Surgery). I am also an active volunteer in my community, serving on the board of both the Skylight Music Theatre and my local public library. In addition to reading I enjoy theater (especially musical theater), gardening, travel and cooking.

Hi Jerry-Book from Richmond, Virginia but born and raised in Iowa. I like the classics, history, historical fiction, biographies, some Sci-Fi,
and some fantasy. Hoping to wind down my law practice in a few years. I am the father of two (one is still in college). I like to spend time at our Virginia Beach condo but don't like hot weather. I am an active participant in the University of Richmond's Osher Program which is continuing education for people over 60.

Terris Hello, Terris here from Shelfari (Terri-S). I'm so glad to see you all here (even though I'll miss Shelfari terribly!). Seeing friends here makes it a little easier ;)
I'm a recently retired Kindergarten teacher so I'm getting to read a lot more than I had time for before. And I'm trying to keep adding to my Classics list all the time, and you guys are my inspiration!!

Hi everyone!

I'm Lara (though you probably know me as llevinso for Shelfari). I'm the head moderator for this group though I have NO IDEA how Goodreads works, so please be patient ;) Special thanks to BC who has stepped up to set this group up!

Anyway, I live in Evanston, IL (right next to Chicago) with my fiance. We've been together almost 5 years and will be getting married in the beginning of April in Puerto Rico! Woohoo! That's also why I haven't been as active this last year. Wedding planning (plus a promotion at work) takes up a lot of time.

I got back into reading the classics several years ago (and that's when I took the reins in the Shelfari group). I also enjoy reading all other different varieties of books: non-fiction, historical fiction, memoirs, etc. I just love to read. So I'm always happy to get a good book recommendation (or give one!).

message 8: by Terris (new)

Terris I know you've been working on the wedding for awhile. We're all excited for you!! :)

message 10: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 25 comments Hello again, everyone! I'm Tracy, on Shelfari I was tstan. I'm from Grinnell, Iowa, and have two grown sons, both in college at this time, neither at the local ones. I am a pharmacist, and recently took a position that allows me to work from home- overnights, seven days on/off, so I have lots of time for my hobbies of gardening, quilting, and, of course, tackling my TBR mountain.
Thank you, Lara and Book Concierge for continuing the group, and I'll see some of you over at the 1001 group, too!

message 11: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 45 comments Hello everyone! I'm Debby in Northern Virginia. I'm married and we have a grown son. I am starting a new business dealing with interior design and home renovating because I love all that. I also like to read, learn foreign languages, general history, art history, military history and some classics, and biographies sometimes. I crochet, do jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, make homemade cards, things like that. I love snow and rain and dancing and chocolate.

message 14: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (nuclearblonde) Hi I'm Janelle (formerly nuclearblonde on Shelfari). I love many genres and live a little north of Richmond, Virginia. I love a lot of nerdy things as well as hitting the gym and getting outside. Good to see so many here already.

message 15: by Amester (new)

Amester | 5 comments Hi, I'm Amy (Amester from Shelfari). I'm a Colorado native currently living just south of metro Denver.

My husband and I have a 10 year old son and his daughter who's a junior at CSU (plus a rotating cast of foster dogs!). I'm a director with an after-school theater program and an avid gardener.

I'm so glad to be back with this group! The kitchen renovation is still under way but I'm determined to get more 'WDLAC?' time!

message 16: by Diane (new)

Diane (bookkaddict) | 3 comments Hi goodreaders! I'm Diane (some of you know me as bookkaddict on Shelfari). Living in rural So. Illinois there isn't much to do here but READ...and I do that. I'll read just about any genre and I do love the classics. Glad to have moved with the Shelfari group and looking forward to more great reviews and discussions.

message 19: by Karin (last edited Feb 18, 2016 06:04PM) (new)

Karin It's so lovely to be reconnecting in our various groups. I'm starting to get used to Goodreads even though I miss Shelfari. But I'm not one for being homesick, so am probably going to be fully adjusted relatively soon despite my original antagonism to Goodreads. More than anything I enjoy staying connected with reading friends, which is why I started going on Shelfari; having shelves and keeping records is fine, but not extremely important to me.

message 20: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (bjsreadingnook) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Bianca , same name on Shelfari, from Michigan. I've been on Goodreads for a while, even though I liked Shelfari more and will miss it. I love to read just about everything.
When not reading I like to crochet, consider myself a foodie, and anime and manga fan.

Monette (cuppatae) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Monette. Like most of you, I miss Shelfari a lot, but I'm happy everyone can reconnect here. I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know more book friends. I love reading so many different genres, but my first love are the classics.

Megan (oreodont) | 22 comments Hi all, I'm Megan S from Shelfari. I'm a paleontologist from Ohio living in Kenosha (in WI, between Chicago and Milwaukee). I recently adopted a schipperke-pomeranian (google this if you need a cute fix for the day!) named Portia, for the Shakespearean heroine of course! I love reading historical fiction, classics, and some fantasy and YA dystopian novels. I miss my Shelfari but am glad to see so many familiar people here.

message 34: by Toviel (new)

Toviel (exagge) Hello, everyone! Karin dropped a link to this group on the classics group on Leafmarks, so I thought I'd join up here now that LM is closing.

I'm a recent college graduate from the unbearably hot climate of Arizona. It's so hot this time of year that there's nothing to do but turn the AC up and curl up with a book. I love reading just about anything, but especially stuff from the turn of twentieth century.

I look forward to getting to know all of you. :)

Jerry M | 3 comments Howdy all. I'm Jerry and I am a pining Shelfarian. It's good to see many of you from back in the day. If you don't remember, I was the voice of reason in this group :) Actually, the title of Fool or Jester would have been more appropriate.

I will probably be sporadic in my popping in here (if I'm that lucky) due to the fact that GR couldn't quite live up to its promise to import all my books from Shelfari (they ended up only importing about a third). So I have a lot of manually importing.

If some of you remember, I started a real life book group with some of my friends (some of whom had never been in a book group let alone having read some of the finer works in literature). I am glad to say that this group is still up and running, although we are down to 5 people (from the original 8). We just met last weekend to discuss E. L. Doctorow's Homer & Langley and now we are reading Rabbit, Run by John Updike (I want to see what they do with a less than desirable protagonist).

It's good to see NB (Nuclearblonde), BC and Amster, to name a few. I talk to Lara all the time on FB (although I may have to boycott her because her Cubbies beat up on my Giants this weekend).

Well, Lara, it will be a re-read for me. I didn't find the character all too pleasing. He would get the Alec/Angel award for best jackwagon in a novel category.
