Hi, I'm Tessa (or BC). I've had a parallel Goodreads shelf since about 2008, and started getting involved in various groups in 2012, so I'm helping the team get this group going.
I'm originally from Texas, but have lived in Wisconsin since I came to college at the age of 17, and fell in love with winter. (I really hate hot weather...)
I'm married - no children, no pets. I work in healthcare administration for a group of pediatric surgeons (General Surgery and Plastic / Reconstructive Craniofacial Surgery). I am also an active volunteer in my community, serving on the board of both the Skylight Music Theatre and my local public library. In addition to reading I enjoy theater (especially musical theater), gardening, travel and cooking.

Hi Jerry-Book from Richmond, Virginia but born and raised in Iowa. I like the classics, history, historical fiction, biographies, some Sci-Fi,
and some fantasy. Hoping to wind down my law practice in a few years. I am the father of two (one is still in college). I like to spend time at our Virginia Beach condo but don't like hot weather. I am an active participant in the University of Richmond's Osher Program which is continuing education for people over 60.

I'm a recently retired Kindergarten teacher so I'm getting to read a lot more than I had time for before. And I'm trying to keep adding to my Classics list all the time, and you guys are my inspiration!!
Hi everyone!
I'm Lara (though you probably know me as llevinso for Shelfari). I'm the head moderator for this group though I have NO IDEA how Goodreads works, so please be patient ;) Special thanks to BC who has stepped up to set this group up!
Anyway, I live in Evanston, IL (right next to Chicago) with my fiance. We've been together almost 5 years and will be getting married in the beginning of April in Puerto Rico! Woohoo! That's also why I haven't been as active this last year. Wedding planning (plus a promotion at work) takes up a lot of time.
I got back into reading the classics several years ago (and that's when I took the reins in the Shelfari group). I also enjoy reading all other different varieties of books: non-fiction, historical fiction, memoirs, etc. I just love to read. So I'm always happy to get a good book recommendation (or give one!).

Thank you, Lara and Book Concierge for continuing the group, and I'll see some of you over at the 1001 group, too!

My husband and I have a 10 year old son and his daughter who's a junior at CSU (plus a rotating cast of foster dogs!). I'm a director with an after-school theater program and an avid gardener.
I'm so glad to be back with this group! The kitchen renovation is still under way but I'm determined to get more 'WDLAC?' time!

When not reading I like to crochet, consider myself a foodie, and anime and manga fan.

Good to see you here!

Welcome Megan! Good to see you here!

I'm a recent college graduate from the unbearably hot climate of Arizona. It's so hot this time of year that there's nothing to do but turn the AC up and curl up with a book. I love reading just about anything, but especially stuff from the turn of twentieth century.
I look forward to getting to know all of you. :)

Welcome, Lysistrata! I have my AC set to 68F at night ....

Glad to have you! What do you like to read?

I love those stores! They don't have them where I live :(

It looks like you are a very well-rounded reader and will fit right in here! (I just finished "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and loved it!!)
:)

Welcome to the group, Audra! I hope you like it here. Looks like you'll fit right in :)

I will probably be sporadic in my popping in here (if I'm that lucky) due to the fact that GR couldn't quite live up to its promise to import all my books from Shelfari (they ended up only importing about a third). So I have a lot of manually importing.
If some of you remember, I started a real life book group with some of my friends (some of whom had never been in a book group let alone having read some of the finer works in literature). I am glad to say that this group is still up and running, although we are down to 5 people (from the original 8). We just met last weekend to discuss E. L. Doctorow's Homer & Langley and now we are reading Rabbit, Run by John Updike (I want to see what they do with a less than desirable protagonist).
It's good to see NB (Nuclearblonde), BC and Amster, to name a few. I talk to Lara all the time on FB (although I may have to boycott her because her Cubbies beat up on my Giants this weekend).
Jerry wrote: "Howdy all. I'm Jerry and I am a pining Shelfarian. It's good to see many of you from back in the day. If you don't remember, I was the voice of reason in this group :) Actually, the title of Fool o..."
So good to see you here Jerry! Sorry about your Giants...though not really ;)
I'll be interested to hear what you think of Rabbit, Run. It's been on my TBR for a while now but I've never pulled the trigger.

Well, Lara, it will be a re-read for me. I didn't find the character all too pleasing. He would get the Alec/Angel award for best jackwagon in a novel category.
