Thanks! I thought that was it but when I read the descriptions of the book online it did not sound right. I remember reading this book more than once which is unusual for me. This time I am doing the audio version. 36 hours!

I did it through Audible, and the narrator was magnificant!

No response from Wendy but a reviewer writes: "The survivors get an awful black crusty thing that forms over their head, like a cast-mold. Then it breaks open and their true spirit is their new face."
