Are we restricting this category to a set of two books? One book with one prequel? Or can we define this as a book in a series that has a prequel/prequels.

I picked up Leviathan Wakes (Expanse, #1) by James S.A. Corey and found out that it's the first book in a series. Then, once I got sucked into the plot, I found out that there are four novellas that were later written as prequels. If I read those, can I count Leviathan Wakes and the novellas as a book and it's prequel (even if there are four more books and several more novellas in the series)?

BTW, if you haven't read any of these books and you like a good space opera, you need to check it out. Also, it's a show on the SyFy channel called "the Expanse"

Audrey (ttrivium) | 47 comments I would definitely count that. I don't think you should be faulted for reading more books than required. They fill the prequel requirement plus some in my opinion.

Sam | 69 comments I'm going to use the Isaac Marion zombie books. Time I got around to reading those.

Ran | 10 comments I thought I'd be reading 40 books until I reread this category. I think I'm going with 2 books (1 book & 1 prequel) but haven't found any title to put in this category yet.

What type of books do you enjoy eg genre? Perhaps have a look at the spreadsheet and see if you can get some ideas from that?

If you have not read Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore (Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, #1) by Robin Sloan , you should. Ajax Penumbra 1969 by Robin Sloan is the prequel. Both of them were very enjoyable. I cannot count it because I read them last year.

Bethany Mead (keys_on_fire) I'm reading Cinder as my book, and Glitches as it's prequel

message 11: by Leah (new)

Leah Reick (professional-reick) I just finished reading "Dorothy Must Die" and it's prequel is "No Place Like Oz." Both by Danielle Paige

message 12: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Nolan79 | 14 comments If you read Cinder as the novel, you can also read Fairest as the prequel.

message 13: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Karen Kingsbury's The Bridge has a prequel called The Beginning. Both are currently being epublished in one volume thanks to Hallmark making them into 2 Christmas movies.

Christina Webb (msbeefcake) | 32 comments So prequel does that mean just 2 books (approx) in the series? Or do you think I need to Do some serious searching.

Prequel Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy, #1) by Mira Grant
#2 Deadline (Newsflesh Trilogy, #2) by Mira Grant .

Both are part of a series/trilogy

message 15: by Sam (new)

Sam | 69 comments Christina, I interpreted it as a true prequel and not just two books in the same series. To me that means an author releases a book then writes another set before that story e.g. 'The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe' and 'The magician's nephew'. So for me I would read the first publication and then go to the prequel.

Storm Indigo (stormindigo) | 2 comments I read Jane Eyre Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Wide Sargasso Sea Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys .

message 17: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Cara Black wrote a prequel to her mystery series : Murder on the Quai.

message 18: by Tricia (new)

Tricia I read "When Patty Went to College" and the prequel "Just Patty" by Jean Webster.

I was a fan of her book "Daddy Long Legs" and really enjoyed these books. They are old books but they were an easy read and I enjoyed them.
