DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Ok, trying out some challenges this year!

Decided to try the Something for Everyone challenge (Link here)

And I might try a couple of others... And probably fail miserably! :D

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Also doing these little challenges, just to make myself read a variety of things I guess :)

Bought but not forgotten (purchased before 2016) 10/10 FINISHED
Audiobooks listened 11/5 FINISHED
Buddy reads 5/5 FINISHED
Manga read 12/20

Might try to do some group reads too, but I'm not so good at keeping an eye on what the groups I'm in are reading...

message 4: by DoodlePanda (last edited Dec 30, 2016 09:37AM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I will be counting the number of pages I have read this year, just for fun really. Not a real challenge as I don't know what the goal would be!
,
Number of pages read so far is 17,938

(view spoiler)

Nyssa | 1569 comments Lol!

message 9: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments That is T finished with :)

message 10: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Nice. So where did the challenge fail last year?

message 11: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Nice. So where did the challenge fail last year?"

I think it was mainly due to a lack of wanting to read for a few months. The start of the year went well, but then just didn't feel like reading at all...

message 12: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I was thinking maybe there were some troublesome letters that you might want help finding options for.

You're at 9 at the end of February, leaving 17 for ten months so two a month should be pretty easy.

message 13: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments I added the alphabet to my thread. Not as a challenge, but just to see how things shake out. Also, on those days when I can't decide what to read, I can use that in addition to the SFE list to try to make my decision.

message 14: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Stop giving me ideas people.

message 15: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Stop giving me ideas people."

Make me.

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Christa wrote: "Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Stop giving me ideas people."

Hahaha :D

Suggestions for tricky letters would be welcome! I prefer mainly fantasy/scifi, but I'll read pretty much any fiction if it's good :)

message 17: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments 12/26 read, covered A, D and P :D

message 18: by DoodlePanda (last edited Mar 20, 2016 05:07AM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished The Dead Room as audiobook.
Which also comes under books bought but forgotten :)

1/5 audiobooks finished
2/10 forgotten books finished

message 19: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Decided to do a count of the number of pages I read this year. Not really a challenge, as I have no idea as to what a good goal would be, but might be fun to see how many pages I get to :)

message 20: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments So far this year the count is 7,268 pages :)

message 21: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments That sounds pretty good. I'm only on about 5,000 or so, so go you!

message 22: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I'm around 6000 right now so I'd say really good. That's in the 100 pages a day range.

message 23: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Well, some of it is manga which is a lot quicker to read... :)

message 24: by DoodlePanda (last edited Mar 21, 2016 12:19PM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Snømannen which is 438 pages, making the current number of pages 7,268 + 438 = 7,706

It will also cover S in my A-Z challenge, and 'a book from my country' in the SFE challenge.

message 25: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Your A-Z challenge is taking a beating. 50% and not even 25% into the year.

message 26: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Your A-Z challenge is taking a beating. 50% and not even 25% into the year."

Yea, it's looking a lot more promising then last year :)

message 27: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Q is for Quarantine, making current number of pages 7,724

It will also cover Q in the A-Z, and 'a book that's under 150 pages.

message 28: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Always nice when books hit multiple challenges.

E - The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.

Just saying. One of my favorite finds the last few years were his Thursday Next and Nursery Crime series. And I don't usually read series anymore.

message 29: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Unicorn Western: 134 pages - 7,724 + 134 = 7,858

Which will also cover 'book I can read in a day' in the SFE challenge.

I was planning on using it in the A-Z challenge too, until I went to enter it in and realized I already had a U..... lol

message 30: by DoodlePanda (last edited Mar 23, 2016 02:27PM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Oh, I forgot that is was also a 'forgotten' book :D
3/10 finished

message 31: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Really knocking down the subchallenges there.

message 32: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments The challenges are actually helping me reduce the number of unread books on my Kindle :)

message 33: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Resident Book Pusher (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "The challenges are actually helping me reduce the number of unread books on my Kindle :)"

I wish I could do that.

message 34: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I know that feeling... I tend to buy lots of Kindle books, but rarely get around to reading them. I have around 400 unread books on my Kindle, most of them I don't even remember what they are...

message 35: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Resident Book Pusher (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "I know that feeling... I tend to buy lots of Kindle books, but rarely get around to reading them. I have around 400 unread books on my Kindle, most of them I don't even remember what they are..."

Looking through them is a chore.

message 36: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments The evils of clutter. In the end, nothing is really free.

message 37: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I often use the Kindle app on my PC to look through them, at least it gives me the chance to view the covers :)
At this point I have completely forgotten whats on there...

message 38: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Open Minds

Covered O on A-Z challenge, also counts as 'forgotten book' and audio book.

Brings the total number of pages read to 8,184

message 39: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Døde menn går på ski. Which for a 'funny' book was horribly boring. You're not missing out :P

But it will be useful in the SFE challenge for book written by a comedian. It doesn't count in any other challenges other than the total number of pages read, which is now 8,400.

message 40: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments You can join me in the group of people that read unfunny books by comedians. :)

message 41: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "You can join me in the group of people that read unfunny books by comedians. :)"

Hehe, yay! :P

message 42: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished The Bees for a total amount of 8,753 pages so far.

message 43: by DoodlePanda (last edited Apr 12, 2016 08:59AM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Flesh
Counts as F in the A-Z challenge
+ audio book
+ books that I purchased and forgot.
Also brings my total number of pages so far to 9,089.

Not sure if I can find a place for it in the SFE challenge though... hmmm

message 44: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Finished Desperation - total page count now 9,241.
↪ A book that takes place on an island

message 45: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Read a couple of mangas: Bleach, Vol. 28: Baron's Lecture Full-Course and Bleach, Vol. 29: The Slashing Opera

Total page count now 9,649

message 46: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Approaching 10,000.

message 47: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments HomeInMyShoes wrote: "Approaching 10,000."

Indeed! :D
I think that if I manage to finish the books I'm currently reading I might be there :)

message 48: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 commentsA book translated to English Norwegian - Piken på toget

Which brings my total number of pages to 10,062!

message 49: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments That's a pretty extravagant celebration.

I can't wait to see the 20,000 one. :)
