G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments The clicking sounds of multiple keyboards was the first sound to be heard when entering the center. The next sound came from the headphones placed firmly within the ears of one Cal Eckert, genius and amazing with computers. The sound that came from the headphones was a song by the group known as Tesla boy. Cal nodded his head and tapped his foot to the beat of the song. "Liberate your sooooooooulll." He sang in his smooth voice. With a deviously wide smile Cal reached out with his left hand to grasp a large mug filled with a potent energy drink. Taking a large sip of the blue liquid his hand shot back to the keyboards. The song changed from a synth song to a reggae song. "When my tongue it runs across my teeth." He sang now as his eyes remained fixed towards eight monitors all reading different amounts of software code.

bb (boxboy) Valentine wasn't a tech guy. He just... wasn't. Neither was he opposed to technology, but it was just that he was never good with numbers, and all that technology was was electricity and numbers. He was nervous, he hadn't been at the daunting institute more than a few weeks, so when a fellow security guard just beside him started singing it caused him to jump a little.
"Jesus," he exclaimed. Turning his head a little to see who had caused the him to start he saw it was that one guard who Valentine didn't entirely trust. The one with eyes that knew too much and a mouth that didn't betray that knowledge. What was his name again? Ah, yes, Cal. He had to admit that the ghoulish looking guard had piqued his interest once or twice, but not enough to trigger any full on curiosity. Hearing the usually quite composed figure sing the way he did was enough to raise an eyebrow, and Valentine wasn't sure if he wanted to people to hear him. Leaning over he tapped Cal's shoulder.

G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments Cal had not even noticed his fellow guardsman sitting just a few feet to the side of him. Feeling the tap on his shoulder he inclined his head to glance over at the man. Removing the grey headphones Cal spoke, "And what can the great Tesla Kid do for you my fine feathered worker drone?" The words came without any tone of humbleness but held overwhelming tones of arrogance. As his eyes were fixed on his colleague Cal's hands never stopped moving across the keyboards, a talent some found creepy. Holes in security plugged triple checked and virus nodes set up should a breach happen were all made within seconds. All without ever needing to look at any of the eight monitors that provided the a good majority of light in the room.

bb (boxboy) As those unsettling eyes landed on Valentine his own flickered over to his hands, both of which kept running their own marathon across the keys, the tap-tap-tap its own strange rhythm.
"Worker drone?" he asked, previous aim forgotten. Truth be told he didn't get to talk much, so conversing was almost as sweet as any sweet available. Sure it was in a dim room with someone who was from a different social arena than him, but surely that was what made it more interesting. Besides, Valentine didn't know where his own friend was, so maybe he could make a new one. "Uh, yeah, I just... Sorry, how are doing that?" he asked, before realizing that one, that question was borderline rude, and two, the answer was clearly intelligence and practice. Rather than backtrack, though, he left the query in the air and hoped that an actual conversation could develop.

G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments "Simple pure ingenuity." Cal couldn't help but grin. "Fact it's rather simple combination of ingenuity and seconds worth of skill." He said with the utmost inner smile towards his cleverness." I didn't even know you could speak much less pose a query. I guess your just about pea sized." His remark aimed directly in relation to brain size. Casting his gaze away for just a second Cal reached out to take another sip of his energy drink. Having done that Cal looked around the center before returning his attention or at least a percentage of it back to the man. "You must be the recent addition to the team." A statement more than a question although he could have formed it to be question just to see if the man could comprehend.

bb (boxboy) Giving the guy a flat look Valentine had to refrain from raising an eyebrow. Did the dude really just... insult his intelligence? Well, it wasn't anything new. Valentine just wasn't a bright guy when it came to what was normally considered 'smart' things, and he knew that.
"Yeah, I'm Anthony, but people usually call me Valentine," he said, not giving an explanation as to why. "My friend and I just changed over a number of days back. It's a weird place they've got here, right? Might be government stuff or something," he shrugged, suppressing a grin. "It was different, though, and the pay is pretty amazing." He wondered what had pulled Cal in.

G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments "Not weird at all," Looking down cal checked his watch before speaking once more. "Six months twelve days seventeen hours forty four minutes and seven seconds since I started this job." With a smirk he cast his deceptive eyes towards the monitors. "The pay is nothing mind you I could have bought an entire country before being offered this job." His fingers stopped for a brief second leaving the room in utter silence as the monitors read a progress bar. Once the bar had filled Cal resumed his typing. His skill mimicked that of graceful movements seen in maestro's.

bb (boxboy) Trying not to either scoff or choke at his workmates words, Valentine only allowed his eyes to widen a fraction in response.
"Oh. So... what does bring you here?" He asked, leaning closer as he tried to study Cal. Somewhat people smart, he usually found it easy to read people. Outside of 'snobbish genius' he really couldn't sort the guy out. Admittedly there was nobody really 'normal' on this island, but this guy was on a whole other level. Yeah, genius was definitely correct-- Valentine had come across enough of those at his old high school.

G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments "Simply bored I guess." Cal said with an almost dull tone it was mocking just a bit. In truth the real reason was much more devious than that, in truth Cal spent sleepless nights trying to find the perfect way to take over or at the very least become powerful. The later seeming to be the more doable. "But really I wanted a challenge yet all I am getting is just boring menial security runs through cyberspace. I mean I could patch these holes in the firewall from the afterlife, that is how easy it is." And the academy award for best actor goes to, he thought as Cal lied with cunning ease.

bb (boxboy) "Huh..." Valentine's eyes unfocused as he went into thought. They guy seemed to be telling the truth, and if that really was the case, perhaps there may be a way to get Cal on his side. Surely it would be a little bit of a challenge to help them save his best friends sister? Yeah, that could work. First, though, he'd have to talk to his friend and figure out what was happening. With their conflicting watch hours and the need to be discreet the two hadn't had much time to talk.

G0BL1N K1NG | 299 comments "Earth to spaceman, come in space man you listening?" Cal had been speaking to Valentine for the past ten minutes without a clue whether his words were sinking in. "Are you deaf man?" Cupping his hands Cal tried once more to relay the message. "We have to go on patrol let's go." He practically yelled out. Standing up he reached out to grab his pistol, quickly placing it in it's holster his quick fingers made short work of the final code on the screen.
