A great book! It is starting out so well.

1) Joffrey's comet and Sansa's thoughts:
"The comet was red but Joffrey was Baratheon as much as Lannister and their sigil was a black stag on a golden field. Shouldn't the Gods have sent Joff a golden comet?"

Uhm no Sansa. You don't know this but he is about as Baratheon as I am!!!

2) Joffrey yapping to Sansa about Viserys and the "gold crown" he got
"It's almost as good as if some wolf killed your traitor brother. Maybe I'll feed him to wolves after I've caught him.

This little shit's comment made me so mad here. What a jerk! If GRRM is trying to get the reader to hate Joffrey this spot would do anyone in!

3) Tyrion arrives and is talking to Joffrey about Robb with Sansa right there
Joffrey: "and now her stupid brother is calling himself a king."
Tyrio: "All sorts of people are calling themselves kings these days."

Tyrion's comment caught me off guard and I really found that funny. He is funny.

Also at the end of the chapter it seems Sansa's gut tells her that Tyrion is ok. However, she is too messed up and confused to go with her gut and believe that he is not your typical Lannister.

And once again I can't seem to shake how much Joffrey reminds me of Draco Malfoy. Although Joff definitely takes being a little piece of sh*t to a whole new level and I much prefer Draco, thank you very much.

Yes, you're right! I knew Joffrey reminded me of someone! Malfoy was a coward and a jerk, but not as psychotic as Joffrey. Also, a little better looking, in my opinion.

thoughts while reading:
We've heard so many different names and explanations and predictions about this red comet. I wonder if any are actually relevant.
"When Joffrey Baratheon's mood darkened, any chance word might set off one of his rages." Joffrey is starting to remind me more and more of Viserys.

"I am loyal to my beloved Joffrey."
"No doubt. As loyal as a deer surrounded by wolves."
"Lions," she whispered, without thinking.

It's nice to see that she doesn't trust any of the Lannisters anymore.

I feel like Tyrion could have been implying Joffrey is one of those people and that Joffrey shouldn't be king.

Absolutely. I think that is why he said it.

Interesting comparison Ria. Joffrey does give a Malfoy vibe. Okay, so with this chapter, it just proved how much of a psychotic self absorbed person Joffrey is. Wanting to kill all the participant because they didn't perform to his liking on his name day. Just ridiculous!!!! Then not wanting to give his brother Tommen a chance to "joust" and yet when Tommen does joust Jofferey laughs when his brother falls. What a jerk. Also, whilst reading the first book, I was annoyed with Sansa and her naive actions. Now I am feeling bad for her more and more. She is definitely maturing with each chapter, but due to a horrible situation. Even though Tyrion is a Lannister, he is definitely the sane one. I wonder if his mother was the same as the mother of Jamie and Cersei.

Joffrey drives me crazy. He is the character I hate the most. He is a huge part of why the Sansa chapters are torture for me. Someone should beat him.

Joffrey is definitely a sociopath, he has no human compassion, but is a coward and a bully - truly a scary combination for one in power.

This one is a reread for me and even though I know what he is going to do I am still enraged by Joffrey like I dont realize how bad he is.

I hate Jof... and Cercei...I don't know who is worse...

I vote Cersei, 'cause she's a huge part of why Joffrey is the way he is. Not to mention she's the reason he exists in the first place.

Haha! I guess I like Cersei's, I mean she is hell of a political lady, she gets her way with everything, although I can't get over the fact that she also can't control Joffrey!

Besides, Sansa is getting smarter, one stupid move by Joffrey and she has all her senses back. I wish she was old enough to manipulate and be political like Cersei.

Although, one huge trouble I have for her is why the hell she wouldn't ask or at least think anything about Arya?

Arya is my favorite female character. Maybe that is part of the reason I dont like Sansa. They are so different and really be a little more concerned about what happened to your sister.
