An unforgettable new novel, all american boys. This novel, all american boys, is written by awards winning authors Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely. A bag of chips. What a sixteen year old rashad was looking for got him in trouble. From the lady tripping over him which made him drop a bad of chips to getting arrested. Author is trying to show perseverance and alacrity, also the support and trust his family and friends had in him he managed to fight through his difficulties. The police officer had rashad slammed on the floor. Even though, rashad does not seem to be resisting, the officer still proceeded with unnecessary force. He preserved the period of time where he had to use a spirometer, which was painful and after inhaling slowly it felt like sucking in shards of glass. “As you can see, the officer already has the young man subdued. He doesn't seem to be resisting, but is still slammed to the ground.” “Just me and my spirometer, which by the way, was also pretty painful to use. I mean, to inhale slowly felt like sucking in shards of glass.”
Hold me up
The First Song I found that could best represent my theme was “Hold Me Mp”, by Conrad Sewell. Every aspect of this song is wonderful, from the tempo to the sound and the lyrics. There are parts of the song where it perfectly explains the purposes of my theme. For example, some of the lyrics include lines such as “Oh I'm praying for some help. I can’t do it by myself, need you now. Need you right now, so hold me up.” These sets of lyrics express my theme very well, it clearly showed how Conrad needed help in some stages and his alacrity towards whomever this is too.
Fight song
Fight Song is the second song I found that best represents my theme. It is by Rachel Pattern and she sang this song with a very gentle and fragile tone. The song starts off quiet, then it gradually gets louder and louder. What makes this song ostentatious would definitely be the embellishing lyrics. “Like a small boat on the ocean, sending big waves into motion. Like how a single word, can make a heart open. I might only have one match, but i can make an explosion.” Its metaphorically telling us, words could change a person, and how a single item or person could make a huge impact. Having the courage to make it impact alone cost a lot of perseverance and alacrity.
Stand by you
The third song I found that represents my theme is Stand by you, it is also by Rachel Pattern. This song has a fairly similar style with Fight Song since both of the songs are from the same artist. Furthermore, just like the other song, what makes this song attractive are the lyrics. This song also started off slow which mad it more emotional. “Put your empty hands in mine, and scars, show me all the scars you hide. And hey, if your wings are broken, please take mine so yours can open too.” These lyrics shows alacrity of your willingness to supporting another and also carrying their problem.
See you again
This is the fourth song that represents my theme. “See you again”, is by Wiz Khalifa. They made this song to remember the death of Paul walker. It is featured by another singer, Charlie Puth. He started the song very slow to emphasize its a sad song. This song really matches my theme because it connects to my book. For example when rashad(main character) only had his family. “How can we not talk about family, when family’s all that we got?” The lyrics has clearly showed the support and how much family meant.
Drag me down
My fifth song that represents my theme is drag me down by One Direction. Just like many other songs this song has wonderful lyrics. It is also a sentimental song, which showed perseverance and alacrity. “All my life you stood by me, when no when else was ever behind me. All these lights that can’t blind me. With your love nobody can drag me down.” The lyrics expresses my theme really well as the the someone one direction is talking about is showing perseverance and alacrity.
Sound of your heart
My sixth song that represents my theme is Sound of your heart by Shawn Hook. The lyrics for this song are embellishing and sweet because it is written as the artist is singing to a girl. The words that are talking and describing her are ineffable. “You were my courage, my sword and shield Grace under pressure, my wall of steel I was a stone, weighing us down You were the angel I chained to the ground I miss the way you undress, I miss your head on my chest. Can’t stop this bleeding, can't stop believing.” This shows how shawn hook is perseverance towards his love ones.
Wrapped up
My seventh song that represents my theme is Wrapped Up by Olly Murs. This lyrics of this song is sentimental as the song is written as the artist singing to a girl, it describes the artist’s feelings for the girl. “Now excuse me if I sound rude, But I love the way that you move, and I see me all over you now. Baby, when I look in your eyes. There’s no way that I can disguise. All these crazy thoughts in my mind now.” According to the lyrics it tells us how persevered his feeling is towards her.
I will never let you down
For the eighth song, I chose “I will never let you down” by Rita Ora. This song consists a more enthusiastic tone rather than the other slow and quit songs. “ You might just give it up. Oh, oh. I will never let you down.” The song has created a similar situation Quinn is in. Having the choices to tell the truth or not.
Change your mind
I chose change your mind for my ninth song and it is by Trey Songz. The interpretation towards this song is already pretty straightforward. It shows alacrity and perseverance in many different ways. “let me change your mind. They say im bad for you its fine. Sometime bad is a good time. Let me change your mind” The willingness have your mind changed shows alacrity. The artist also showed perseverance by thinking really optimistically.
Where are you now
For the last song of this playlist is where are you now by Justin Beiber. It has a variety of different mixture of music. “Where are you now that i need you.” These sets of lyrics express my theme very well, as Justin Beiber shows his willingness
Based on the ten songs that I have chosen to illustrate Rashad’s perseverance and alacrity. It is always good to have family or friends around to support you.
