The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
question
how to get rid of all the "stuff"

I have too much stuff and can't let go. This book gave me a method and an order of attack and I am slowly clearing out the stuff I don't need. But the emphasis here is on "slowly." Any suggestions for speeding up the process while living my busy life?

Marie Kondō stresses the touching and holding of the object to get a sense of whether it gives you joy. This would be especially important for smaller objects and mementos. It makes for a very slow process when dealing with clothes and other items though when I think a gut visual reaction is enough.
If you linger over the objects and let them evoke memories it will slow you down. Work on the process only when you are feeling energized and positive i.e. when the letting go is not going to sadden you in some manner. As soon as it makes you sad, you stop working at it.
Anyway, this has been my experience.

Thanks Alan. I do get sad when I am working on this project and it is a good idea to come back at it later when I am more positive and energized.
It can take a long time, but if you do each category thoroughly, it will keep you going. If your clothing is sorted and organized, it will give you the energy for the next thing!
