In return I'd suggest Ruta Sepetys's Salt to the Sea, a fictional account of Eastern European refugees trying to make it to the ill-fated Wilhelm Gustloff.

Salt to the Sea is quite good. But her prior book Between Shades of Gray is much better.
I would also suggest Berlin Diaries, 1940-1945. It is the diaries of a twenty-three-year-girl who worked in the German Foreign Office. During this time, the conspiracy to kill Hitler was born. It's a different perspective on the war. Quite interesting.

Sophie Scholl and the White Rose, about a group of young German students and a teacher who ran a resistance movement. I purchased this in the gift shop of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC, after yearning to find out about any Germans who did NOT support Hitler or stand passively by.
Refuge Denied: The St. Louis Passengers and the Holocaust, about a ship carrying Jewish refugees to Cuba, where most were denied entry, followed by a rejection by the US to take them in. The authors amazingly tracked the fate of every single one of the passengers, most of which returned to European countries later invaded by the Nazis.
