We had a tie for the Adult group read.

One of the ones that won was The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.

That's somewhere in my notebooks. One of my favourite quotes from the book! One more is what the cat says about the Lady Amalthea. How (s)he would have been hers and never her own again, had (s)he allowed to be touched by her. Or something along those lines. I still haven't looked for my paperback...

About every tenth line in this book gets me teary-eyed. I love it.

I have never read the book, nor watched the movie, so this one is new to me. Just got the Kindle version from the library. Didn't realize that it is not the same as the physical book. This one is created in the 'comic book' (graphic) style...a series of six beautifully illustrated installments; a much abbreviated version. The gist of the story is there...told more in pictures than words.

Finished the first one...love the imaginative butterfly character. The color illustrations in HD are stunning.

The paperback of this book, issued in the last century, is somewhere in my house. I saw it just a few weeks ago. But can I find it now for the group read? No :P

It's available on kindle in its original format. You just have to read the fine print. I hate it when they do that. You think you're getting The Hobbit but you're actually getting a comic book or the Spanish version or something.


How does everyone see this versus The Princess Bride? They have similar genre profiles and come from the same era.

Thanks, Phil, I'll keep that in mind for the future. The original version isn't available on Kindle through my library, and that's where I got this one...which I am enjoying. Finished the second installment of the 6. A wonderful mix of mythological characters from Greek, Roman, Norse.

Gentler, I think. More fairy-tale-like, less swashbuckling adventure/humor.

I found my copy if this book. I knew I'd purchased it in the past century, but when I saw the publication date, my mouth dropped. It is 1968. For a number of reasons, I am amazed that this precious little book has survived. If I choose to reread this copy, I may wear white cotton gloves!

1968? Wow! Is it a first edition then?

I'm not sure. It's a paperback, "A Dell Rey Book, Published by Ballantine Books". Wouldn't a First Edition be the hardcover?

I'm pretty sure I bought this paperback in the college bookstore sometime between September 1969 and June 1971. I've managed to carry it around and keep it whole for all these decades. It's fragile. The pages are cafe au lait. A-mazing.

So, no, not a first edition, but a very early edition. Still very cool!
