Val Mullally (val_mullally) Hi. I'm currently working on my next Parenting book. The working title is 'A Month with a Toddler'. It's about being a key support person in a toddler's life when his baby sister joins the family. I'd love to hear comments from parents re this topic and suggestions of words you might google if you were looking for support re supporting a toddler when a second child joins the family. All ideas / suggestions much appreciated. Thank you . Val

Helen Bell (helenbellauthor) | 2 comments Acceptance springs to mind as a word I'd have googled if it was around at the time. You want the little guy to accept his sister, and at the same time as parents you have to accept that she's an invasion into his settled world and he's not going to like it. Without knowing it she'll do things that irritate him and he'll react; half of what you try to make him accept her will be based on reason and he's two, so it doesn't work. I know of a couple of people who brought their son a toy from his new sister so the 'acceptance' wasn't all seen as one way, from him.

Val Mullally (val_mullally) Thanks Helen for your feedback and suggestions. Yes - it makes sense that 'acceptance' is a key word to use. Much appreciated.
